Missionary Obligation, Seek and Save the Lost

We must reach those who the churches normally don’t contact. We must enlarge our hearts and begin to love the entire world Christ died for. No nation can own our soul. We must be citizens of heaven and go wherever God tells us to without complaining. Until you have asked God where geographically in the world He wants you to be, you have no right to remain within your nation. As citizens of heaven, we must relinquish all earthly rights and fulfill the cause of Christ. We must be mature disciples who take up our cross and deny ourselves to fulfill our missionary obligation to the world.

When the cry of our heart becomes, “Thy will be done!” we also will love the frontlines of battle. When the Salvation Army was born it was organized “to carry the blood of Christ and the fire of the Holy Ghost into every corner of the world.”

General William Booth wrote:

“We are Salvation people—this is our specialty—getting saved and keeping saved, and then getting somebody else saved, and then getting saved ourselves more and more, until full salvation on earth makes the heaven within.

WE BELIEVE IN SALVATION. We believe in the old-fashioned salvation. . . . proclaimed by Prophets and Apostles, preached by Luther and Wesley and Whitefield, sealed by the blood of martyrs—the very same salvation that was purchased by the sufferings and agony and blood of the Son of God.

We believe the world needs it; this and this alone will set the world right. We want no other nostrum—nothing new. We are on the

track of the old Apostles. You don’t need to mix up any other ingredients with the heavenly remedy. Wound and kill with the old sword, and pour in the old balsam and you will see the old result—Salvation. The world needs it. The worst man that ever walked will go to Heaven if he obtains it, and the best man that ever lived will go to Hell if he misses it. Oh, publish it abroad!

There is a Hell. A Hell as dark and terrible as is the description given of it by the lips of Jesus Christ, the Truthful. And into that Hell men are departing hour by hour. While we write men are going into everlasting punishment. While we eat and drink, sleep and work, and rest, men are going where the worm dieth not, and where the fire is not quenched.

So wake up all the powers of your being, my brothers, and consecrate every awakened power to the great end of saving them. Be a Salvationist.”

As Booth the founder of the Salvation Army declared, we need to be about our heavenly Father's business. Jesus came to "seek and save the lost" (Luke 19:10) not build religious edifices and establish religious denominations. No, religion is the enemy of God. Religion grossly misrepresents God and distracts from His eternal purposes, which is winning souls.

We need the smell of hell to compel us to seek and save the lost. Most folks don’t go to “preaching places.” We therefore must go to them. Let us never lose touch with the common man. After all, Jesus was a friend of sinners (Lk. 7:34). Jesus only wants faithful

soldiers in order to win the uttermost parts of the earth for His possession. We’re fighting a war for God. Urge those who will listen and those who will not to consider their spiritual condition and awaken them to the reality of hell.
