Natural Help for Rosacea
by Stewart Hare
The chronic skin condition of rosacea which is medically known as acne rosacea affects around 1% of the population; it normally affects adults between the ages of 30 to 40 with fair skin. It is an inflammatory skin condition which makes the complexion in the areas such as the cheeks, nose, chin and forehead become red, ruddy and flushes easily, pustules that resemble acne appear and red fine dilated blood vessels known as telangiectasia may become more prominent. In severe cases, the cheeks and forehead are persistently affected with eruptions with prominent blood vessels, puffiness and redness. The eyes maybe affected by inflammation of the
eyelids known as blepharitis and conjunctivitis. Fair skinned people seem to be more susceptible and the condition gets worst in time. The exact cause of rosacea is unknown but research has linked rosacea to body bacteria, digestive disorders such as acid reflux, abnormal sensitivity of blood capillaries, overuse of corticosteroid cream for other skin problems and an infection by a skin mite (Demodex folliculorum) of the sebaceous glands. Chronic severe untreated cases of rosacea can lead to disfigurement of the face. Changing the diet may help with rosacea, drinking alcohol and hot drinks and eating spicy foods are known to trigger flare ups
of rosacea so avoiding these may be wise. Cutting out chocolate, tea, yeast extract, eggs, cheese, citrus fruits and wheat may also be beneficial. Other factors that can cause flare ups of rosacea are stress, extreme hot and cold temperatures, vigorous exercise, and exposure to sunlight.
