Canker Sores (mouth ulcers) are painful ulcerations within the mouth; they can appear in a group or on their own. They are linked to stress, hypersensitivity to the common mouth bacterium – haemolytic streptococcus, inflammatory bowel disease, the herpes simplex virus, coeliac disease and immune problems. The appearance of canker sores (mouth ulcers) is a slight raised yellowish border with a red area surrounding it with sometimes an opaque yellowish film covering it.
Canker Sores (mouth ulcers) have been linked to a dietary sensitivity to gluten in some people; gluten is the protein in wheat and other grains. If you suffer from canker sores (mouth ulcers) regularly it may be well worth experimenting with a gluten free diet whether you suffer from coeliac disease or not. It may be worth keeping a food diary if you constantly suffer from Canker Sores (mouth ulcers) because other food allergies and sensitivities have known to make the problem worst. In one study, it was found that a detergent, sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) triggered canker sores (mouth ulcers), sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) is used in most brands of toothpaste. If you suffer from canker sores (mouth ulcers) it may be worth while trying a sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) free toothpaste.
