I”m feeling the warm glow of success as I write these words, just having achieved approval of a significant venture that I”m starting halfway around the world.
This project has taken some time to come together, and a hundred details needed to be covered, and many tasks executed, but we”re on our way, and the feeling is nothing less than spectacular.
Monitoring my own quiet reverie, I wondered, a moment ago, what is it that I”m experiencing, this joy, what”s it from, really?
It”s not about money, there”s some; but not much.
It”s not about fame, there”s some of that, too; but again, not much.
It”s about having a dream, making a plan to realize it, and then steadily sticking to it until it ripens into success.
I”ve often wondered why I”m brought to tears when I see a play about scientific discovery, as I did in London after seeing, “Breaking The Code,” the story of Alan Turing.
This is the gent who led the team that cracked the German ciphering code, enabling the Allies to anticipate military deployments.
Or consider the movie, “A Beautiful Mind,” starring Russell Crowe, which chronicles the struggles and insanity of a Nobel Prize winning physicist. Again, I was moved, deeply, after seeing this story.
Yes, these people struggled against the odds, but their victory is especially sweet, as I see it, because it is a demonstration of the supremacy of ideas, and the quiet courage and resolve of those special people who proffer them, in the process exposing themselves to ridicule, but changing the lives of millions, forever.
I”m moved, because I can see that there is nothing as beautiful as a theory or a plan that works!
