Product Description
The king of real-world chic shares his tips and award-winning flair in a colorful guidebook designed to unleash every woman s inner fashionista.

A twenty-year veteran of the fashion industry, Isaac Mizrahi has become a unique icon in the world of style. He doesn t do makeovers or take pleasure in berating the way a woman dresses. Instead, he is a problem solver and a titan of trendsetting who believes that fashion should be seriously fun. Showcasing his singular approach to looking great, How to Have Style begins with the premise that all women should wear what inspires them. Using twelve real women facing real wardrobe dilemmas, Mizrahi walks readers through the fundamentals of finding a personal style that reflects their authentic selves. Other features include:

A personal fashion questionnaire and how to create an inspiration board that unlocks the secrets to individual style
Hundreds of fashion tips on everything from clothes and accessories to expert advice on skin care and makeup to mixing patterns and wearing color
How to become a collector instead of just a shopper

Dubbed a one-man brand by BusinessWeek, Mizrahi shares his style rules on everything from boots to bags, from skirt length to the right undergarments. With more than 400 dazzling photographs as well as Mizrahi s own sketches, How to Have Style makes it simple to look your best.

2 out of 5 stars No rules!   January 6, 2009

If you are looking for a book that tells you how to accentuate your good points and to hide your flaws (real or perceived), this is not it.
I've already had my hair cut and my make-up redone, but even after reading this entire book I have no better idea what would flatter me and my figure.
I do like the concept of creating your own personal style board to see what resonates for you, but how to apply that was missing for me.
While I've seen his designs and usually like them. I have to agree with the reviewer that criticized some of his style choices (I did like the bleach blonde she hated, though). I was hard pressed at times to pick what he thought were good outfits from the bad.
I'd suggest that you look through this book before you decide to buy it. It seems to have hit a chord with some women, but it sure didn't for me.

5 out of 5 stars STYLE   December 30, 2008

I loved that Mr. Mizrahi starts with a "big picture" approach of what inspires us and then takes readers through to show tangible results. In using real women who do not need makeovers, he is able to focus on the elements of style instead of just a new hairstyle or more make up. I also think he covers the appropriate amount of different takes on lifestyle, age and body type. I will use this book as a jumping off point in finding a look of my own. I would also highly recommend another great book How to Snag a Guy and Keep Him Hooked: 99 Ways to Make Him Ache for You

2 out of 5 stars Genuinely Bewildering at Times   December 30, 2008

There's no philosophy about style. There was a double truck layout with outfits owned by a client and comments by I.M. and I literally couldn't tell why he thought some were great and others were awful.

And I don't share his taste.

Although he makes fun of himself in the blurb, he and his assistants look so sloppy in the photos that one wonders why women are supposed to drive themselves crazy creating an illusion of glamour when the professionals don't even bother.

4 out of 5 stars Its insperation,Not about What Not To Wear,   December 17, 2008

This is a book about insperation, with examples on real women with REAL BODIES(thank you Isaac!).
Its about finding style by seeing your whole outfit, choosing from a grouping/options,selecting to make outfits not just buying a shirt.
This isnt a 'what not to wear'-which I LOVE-this isnt about your body shape and accentuating or covering up.Its about STYLE!!!
Kicking it up a notch. Getting out of t-shirts and jeans.

2 out of 5 stars Buy this book if you are one of the models in it.........   December 6, 2008

When I purchased this book I thought it would give me some pointers on how to accentuate my body type the right way. I wasn't looking for ways to "hide" any area just look like I was put together. I was disappointed with this book. It gave little info or suggestions to general body types and more attention to the one person he was dressing with their own taste. Isaac has style but I would have liked to see a few people in each size catagory done different ways. I did not see pointers in each chapter - no matter what the size of the participant was - that would cover many women, this book was focused on the models.
