Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
An illustrated guide for using clothes to overcome body challenges and create an individualized look and style.

For any woman who has a big butt, flat chest, large waist, thick ankles, unwieldy thighs, short legs, or a round belly, Style Rx is the prescription she needs. With more than 250 photographs and fifteen illustrative personal case studies, image and style consultant Bridgette Raes helps women to understand the unique proportions of their bodies, part by part, rather than classifying the female body into an impossible generic "type." She prescribes cuts, colors, and fabrics that make the most (or if necessary, the least) of what they have for their best possible look. With practical advice, a mix-andmatch approach, and an understanding of how to create balance, she helps tackle common body issues and finds clothes than can make women look and feel great-as simply as possible

1 out of 5 stars Style RX   December 20, 2008

I didn't really care for it. I thought alot of the models looked better before.

5 out of 5 stars A huge help in picking out clothes.   December 15, 2008
A reader (Traverse City, MI USA)
This book gave me so many ideas on what styles to avoid for my body shape -- and which ones to look for. It has made shopping for clothes a lot easier. I don't even look at those things that are not best for my body.

1 out of 5 stars IS GOOD TASTE NEEDED TO WRITE A STYLE BOOK?   October 7, 2008

This is a dishonest book. In the first section, where the author discusses how to handle specific body area issues the before and after pictures are not honest. The before pictures are posed to emphasize the flaw. The after pictures are shot from a slightly different angle, thereby making the *improvement* look much more effective than it really is.
My second issue with this book is how out-of-date it seems. About 3/4 of the way through I looked at the back of the title page. I was amazed to see this book was published in 2008. The clothing styles are outdated, they are tacky and mostly unflattering. Even the clothing and looks used in the *solution* pictures are just awful. Now, I am not looking for Armani here but some style might be appropriate in a book of this sort.
In the last part of the book were are shown total ensembles, to change the appearance of certain parts of the body. The solutions, the clothes used, the whole effect was sad. Sorry, sad is the right word.
And what is this supposedly experienced and successful stylist's solution to *curvy* figures? TA DA: JACKETS! Stop the presses! Jackets for women who are any degree larger then the *norm* is the #1, passe and most unoriginal solution possible.
I want you to consider a hypothetical situation, imagine you are a larger woman living in one of the hotter areas of the country (Florida, the south, southwest). Can you imagine the sweaty torment of those darn jackets day after day in 90+ degree heat and close to 100% humidity.
I find the authors claim to long term success hard to swallow. One last caveat. The title page of each section is done in an extremely light and thin font. It is difficult to read. Did anyone proof this book?
Ok, I am almost done. I wasted $15.95 USD on this book. There is not a outfit I would wear in here. The advertised *solutions* are already well-known (let's see, long necklaces and scarves draped around the neck for a short neck)
I do want to mention my top 2 suggestions from this book
1) wear horizontal stripes on top to balance a heavier bottom
2) wear vertical striped tops to hide the appearance of heavy arms
Need I say more?

3 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings   August 30, 2008

This book had good information on dressing to look your best. The author was on target with body flaws and their remedies...the book was very aptly named. I liked the way that her book was organized. She points the reader in the right direction to visually correct figure flaws.

Three things that would have given this five stars. First, color photos. You have to use your imagination when looking through the section on color and pattern intensity because black and white photos just don't do it justice. Second, thicker pages. I could read the print on the next page without actually turning. Third, some of the before pictures of these women actually looked better than the after. Particularly, I found this true toward the end of the book when all of the models were in white t-shirts and jeans in their "before" pic. Many of them (though certainly not all) looked classier in the jeans than the final outfits that were supposedly correcting figure flaws!!! Personally, I like a classy look, and the author sometimes clothed the models in more trendy, less-than-appealing clothing.

All in all, my daughter and I both enjoyed this read, laughing together at some of the author's humorous views.

This is an excellent book; for both reference and self-help. I strongly recommend this book for its very easy to use and extremely well organized.
