Amazon.com Review
If you've ever wondered why the latest fad diet doesn't work for you... well, there are lots of reasons, mostly the fact that it's a fad diet. But it could also be that you're the wrong blood type for the kinds of foods the diet recommends. Peter D'Adamo makes a persuasive argument that your blood type is an evolutionary marker that tells you which foods you'll process best, and which will be useless calories. He covers the entire range for each of the four blood types, from entrees to condiments and seasonings, and also makes type-specific exercise and lifestyle recommendations.

Product Description
Proposes that a person's blood type can both influence health and explain individuals' reactions to foods, and presents four different plans, based on blood type, for diet, exercise, and good health.

5 out of 5 stars Listen to your body then read this book   January 8, 2009

I am a person that is very present in my own body. I pay attention to what works well and what creates havoc in my body. I am an O blood type and I would say that once I read up on my type and the kinds of foods I should avoid and those that are beneficial I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. How did this man I'd never met know so much about me? I'd grown up vegetarian mainly consuming whole wheat everything and soy, white potatoes and corn by-products. These foods helped my tiny frame gain weight. Those foods gave me the hips and the but I was looking for but they also gave me a bloated tummy, digestive issues, brain-fog, skin rashes, itchiness allover, hormonal imbalances, Hypoglycemia(low blood sugar) and joint problems. I was always achy and sick and didn't know why. I started eating lots of salmon and tilapia and cut back on the wheat because my mom suggested that I may have some kind of allergy to it. I left the soy alone because of the phytoestrogens and started seeing a little relief. After reading this book I went back and forth with the foods that I ate mainly out of convenience and suffered the same issues.

When I got married I told my hubby (who's a chef)I would start eating poultry and then red meat because this is what this book says is right for my type. I started with poultry because didn't want to start with red meat. I noticed a change almost instantly. Usually when I ate I a became extremely tired and almost high, but eating my meat first and then veggies stopped those feelings. I committed to a gluten-free lifestyle and I am still working on avoiding corn products. It's a process and with anything you have to listen to your body and proceed a needed. I plan to completely live my blood type diet by the summer.

I highly recommend this book and if you get a chance you should visit the blood type website. I also recommend you buying it as a gift for your loved ones. A lot of health problems can be eliminated and avoided if people just listen to their bodies instead of the Subway, Wendy's, Pilsbury, South Beach, and Jenny Craig commercials.

5 out of 5 stars Great read!!   January 6, 2009

This is a wonderful and helpful book. I have been suffering from low white-blood cell count and am going to use this book as a guide. Shared this book with family and everyone was curious and so interested in reading and learning about themselves.

5 out of 5 stars If you are looking for a great diet and/or want to feel better than you ever have in your life, this book is a Must Have!!!   December 20, 2008

Looking at my hands today, it's hard to believe that 6 years ago I had arthritis so bad that I couldn't even hold a cup of coffee without spilling it. Big knots on all my joints, one of my little fingers bent, redness and swelling in all my fingers. Now 6 years later, the knots are gone except on 3 fingers and those knots are much smaller, the little finger is straight again and the only time I have redness is when I have eaten Pizza the night before.

Six years ago while doing research on arthritis in one of my health books it said that Dr. D'Adamo treated arthritis on people with type O blood by taking them off dairy products. I never have been able to drink milk but for years I had been eating a lot of cheese for the calcium, that is what we have been told to do..............right. That day I stopped all dairy products. First the redness started going away, then my fingers started feeling much more flexible, I was able to do more without pain, my little finger started getting straight, the knots on my joints started getting smaller. It didn't happen overnight but today unless I told you, you would never realize there had ever been anything wrong with my hands. People who don't know me often remark about how pretty my hands are for someone my age(70).

The next year while shopping in a health food store, I learned Dr. D'Adamo had writtenEat Right 4 Your Type: The Individualized Diet Solution to Staying Healthy, Living Longer & Achieving Your Ideal Weight. I had such wonderful results with what little I had tried that I wanted to know more, so ordered my first book that day. At that time I was having Acid Reflux problems. Everything I ate gave me Acid Reflux, I thought it was just a symptom of age but didn't want to take the little purple pill my Dr. wanted to prescribe.

Can you imagine how surprised I was to find out that a lot of the foods I had been eating all my life for good health(Cantalope,Strawberries, Tangerines ) were on my avoid list? For about the first year I stayed strictly on the diet. My Acid Reflux went away and I started feeling better than I had for years. Since I have always kept my weight down, by the second year a size 6 just wasn't enough weight for my 5' 8" frame so I started adding some things back to pick up some weight. Right now I use the diet about 70% and eat other things as I want them, this keeps me in the size 10 where I want to be.

Two different girl friends...........two different results. Both women are in their mid 50's, both were always feeling bad and running to the Dr. all the time. Both on multiple prescriptions, both weighing between 250 and 300 pounds, both 5'7". I ordered the book for both of them. One friend wanted to take control of her health. She now wears a 6 or 8, is off all the meds except 2, works out and looks like she is in her mid 30's. I don't think the other friend ever looked at the book, if anything she is bigger now than she was then. Still feels lousy all the time, still goes to the Dr. for even more meds, very unhappy and not likely to change.

This is about the 10th time I have ordered this book, I keep lending them and never getting them back. If you are serious about your health, I promise you, getting this book will be the best thing you will ever do for yourself. However if you are like my 1 friend, who only wants to talk about feeling and looking better. I would have to say..........only you can make a difference in your life and if you aren't going to use it, don't waste your money.

5 out of 5 stars Food As Medicine   December 18, 2008

As a Naturopathic Physician, not only has Dr. D'Adamo's book been extremely helpful to me personally but to my patients that I have seen in my practice for over the past 12 years. Now I understand what the term means:
" food as medicine"-- using the right foods to positively impact our bodies. I personally have experienced feeling my best since following my blood type diet. I am very familiar with using herbs, homeopathy, supplements and natural hormones to help heal the body and I must say that all these modalities have been helpful to me however what I have found is that when I follow this diet or have my patients follow this diet, we experience a level of wellness that most of us haven't had with any other modality.
I am so grateful to Dr. D'Adamo for having the insight to share his work with us and as Albert Einstein has said "Intellectuals solve problems, geniuses prevent them." Dr. D'Adamo, you're a genius!

1 out of 5 stars this is not based on science.   December 13, 2008

The premise for this book is not based on any science that is accepted as true. As a physician, I can tell you that there is no difference between blood groups as far as diet effectiveness goes. The difference between blood types is so minute, we are talking tiny 6 carbon sugar molecule differences between A,B,O. Take a step back and think about this logically and I think you will realize that is completely fictitious and not worth the paper it is printed on. If you must do a fad diet, pick anything other than this! If you actually want to lose weight, be healthier, and live longer you will have to start eating right regularly and exercising.
