Product Description Introducing a fresh new voice and a simple 8-step program specifically created for college students by a college studenta complete lifestyle guide to eating well and staying fit.
Like many girls, Daphne Oz struggled with her weight as a teenager and couldn't stick with the extreme restrictions of fad diets. She was able to seize control over her health and her weight only when she recognized the golden opportunity offered by the major transition to college life. With the help of her father and grandfather, both cardiac surgeons, and her grandmother, a homeopathic practitioner, she developed the eating and exercise habits that would help her lose 10 pounds in her first semester. So much for the proverbial Freshman 15! All her friends wanted to know how she did it. Now they, and thousands of others, can.
Daphne's 8-step program shows college students how to stop eating out of emotional need and examine when, where, and especially what they should eat to keep their minds in focus and their bodies in shape. With warmth and humor, she coaches readers on managing time, storing food, and respecting budgets; helps them navigate the most common danger zones at school for unhealthy eating; and shows them how to get the exercise they need, even in a tiny dorm room. She also offers invaluable tips on vitamins and supplements, and simple, effective ways to relax and rejuvenate right on campus, so students can stay mentally as well as physically fit.
The Dorm Room Diet is a winning combination of the author's personal story and practical strategies that empower young women to use their newfound independence to create a healthy lifestyle while in collegeand for life.

Good material, but a bit hard June 17, 2008 C. Paarlberg (Manteno, IL) Good material, but a bit hard for the average college student. Even a friend who is in great shape thought it was hard.
You'll graduate a lightweight with this book! February 7, 2008 2bluesky2 I train people and like evaluating diet books now and then- and this one caught my eye. Written by daughter of Mehmet Oz, author of the popular "YOU" series of books, the author is also a college student that managed to actually lose weight while in college- no small feat these days. Throughout the book she relays helpful tips for losing weight and keeping in shape- advice specifically geared for students of higher learning. I found the book to be an easy read with a wealth of info for kids on the go. A lot of topics usually left out of weight loss books, such as emotional eating and a chapter on motivation (Chapter 1) make this book stand out from the rest. With all this book has to offer, it would not be outlandish for every parent to pack a copy of this book in their kid's suitcase as they send them off to institutions of higher learning. I give it 5 stars for its well rounded diet and exercise info. Also recommend checking out The Dorm Room Diet Planner.
The Dorm Room Diet August 31, 2007 Emily Cherise (Irving, TX) Very useful book for entering college. It makes you much more aware of the junk you're putting into your body, but at the same time, you don't have to be constantly hungry and seeking food. It's a balance between binging and starving and it's incredibly helpful.
Great! January 9, 2007 Grace Pierce (Longmont, CO United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The book was so easy to understand and user friendly. I like her style of writing and the way she has set up the information! I want to pass it down to my future kid when they go off to college!
Daughter offended to receive this book as gift January 3, 2007 Putnam Reviews (Cambridge, MA USA) 3 out of 16 found this review helpful
The review I heard on NPR suggested to me that this book would be a wonderful gift for my daughter, a college freshman. She is athletic, trim, works out every day, and is very careful about what she eats. To my surprise, she refused to open the book because she assumed from what she had heard about it from her friends that my giving it to her implied that I thought she was fat and getting fatter. Dads, beware!
