| Customer Reviews: CDC yellow book review February 26, 2010 D (Florida) This 2010 CDC Yellow Book arrived promptly and in perfect condition. The information within the book is clear and concise, easy to read.
Indispensable for professionals; helpful for consumers who travel December 9, 2009 Robert C. Ross (New Jersey) One of the great joys of my life is travel, especially to unusual locations. I purchase this book every five years or so just to keep up on the health risks in various countries around the world, and always find it interesting reading.
Before a trip to Peru two years ago, for example, we learned about acute mountain sickness and the bites of parasitic sand flies. We packed a prescription drug for the mountain sickness, and drank lots of apple juice (a remedy we learned about at Mesa Verde years ago). The apple juice worked its magic and we threw the prescription drugs away last year when the dating expired. Deet pretty much handled the sand flies and we had a wonderful travel experience.
The CDC home page is a great source of current information; this book gives you specific locations to check for many destinations to be sure the user has current information.
It's also wise to double check the US Department of State website, and the even more useful British government site maintained by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
It's all good preventative medicine, and helps keep an rewarding travel experience even more satisfying.
