Good in theory October 3, 2008 This book is fine for an overall attitude of how to chill out and take care of your child's simple medical needs bit it's so outdated regarding medical practices that if you walk into your doctor's office quoting this book, you might look like a fool. Thankfully, patient care has come a long way in the 20 years since this book was written. Again, read it to get the right perspective on your child's health but don't get worked up about the old medical practices discussed in this book.
Read this book 20 years ago May 16, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
My daughter is now 20 years old. I read this book while pregnant and found it very helpful. My refused immunizations, the eye drops, the Vit K shot and the anal temperatures. When she was teething I rubbed whiskey on her gums. When she got pneumonia I gave her carrot juice instead of antibiotics. She never got baby food out of a jar - I made it myself from organic fruits and veggies. When I was done breast feeding she got soy milk - no powdered formulas. Today her immune system is so strong she rarely gets sick and when she does she is over it quickly. She had a very mild case of chicken pox when she was around 8 years old - nothing that required even a doctors visit - it was like she had a cold. I am writing this review now because a friend of mind is pregnant and when I told her I chose not to get my child vaccinated she thought I was a lunatic. Then she did the research and she has decided that maybe I was right. I was so happy to hear of her decision that I had to look up this book and reccommend it to her. I wish everyone who is going to have a baby would just consider that possibility that their pediatrician may not be right about certain things and take the time to find out for themselves!
Some info not up to date April 5, 2008 Overall the book was very informative and calss parents to rely on common sense and natural remedies to care for your child rather than pump them full of drugs to cure them. I'm not so sure the vaccination portion of the book is recent enough to rely on.
Timeless..... March 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Dr. Mendelsohn, an articulate common sense approach for healthy baby and childhood. His advice is timeless, his experience priceless. The book removes fear, instead the pages are embedded with reassurance to follow one's heart while making crucial decisions for your precious little people. Love you, Dr. Mendelsohn!
