Amazon.com Review In many ways, The pH Miracle is reminiscent of an earlier generation of diet books. Much of the focus is on an intestinal cleansing program, followed by a diet that is 70 to 80 percent vegetables, coupled with a tremendous selection of supplements that authors Robert and Shelley Young recommend to everyone, no matter what their age, gender, or state of health. The Youngs point their fingers at candida as a main culprit in the poor health of many people. Unfortunately, they back up their claims with only vague references, such as "a 1991 study" and "a leading cancer researcher." Many readers may wish for more specific evidence, but instead will have to make do with enthusiastic recommendations, alphabetized lists of vegetables, and pleasing chapters with vegetarian recipes that taste good no matter how you feel about the diet as a whole. Sprinkled throughout the book are short testimonials of people who were able to reverse cancer, improve their digestion, and lower their cholesterol by following these recommendations, and it's hard to argue with the cholesterol-lowering results that a 70 percent vegetable diet will achieve. Still, the medical value of much else in the book remains hotly contested, and as always, it's wise to check with your doctor before starting off in search of miracles. --Jill Lightner

I'm a gorilla October 5, 2009 Just some guy (Norway) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This diet is great. I did the "clensing" for 5 days, while working the graveyard shift, and I've never felt more awake, energetic, or gotten deeper sleep after work, without eating anything. So obviously there is something to this. My only criticism is that the author states you only need 25 grams protein per day. This, I think, is very relativ from individual to individual. I'm a big guy, weighing ca 100 kg, and with only 25 grams a day, I loose muscle, no way around it. He uses the gorilla as an argument, saying they only eat leaves and fruits and such. That's fine, but when you take into account that a full grown male eats up to 30 kg per day, the picture is different. Assuming their diet consists of, say, 1,5 % protein, that amounts to 450 grams per day. If 1 % then 300 grams. A male gorilla weighs up 275 kg. If I was a gorilla, then with my 100 kg I would need from 108 - 162 grams per day. See what I'm saying? Humans are not gorillas, but still, I'm very sceptical about this 25 grams business. Then again maybe I am a gorilla...Other than that, what possible argument can be maid against such a healthy diet? I've read the 1-star reviews but its most about Young not attendig a "real" university and for some people, that's almost like blasphemy.
Ph Diet September 24, 2009 Dixie R. Pattison (LA, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The book arrived promptly. I have not fully read the book, went straight for the food lists and to the store. The ph diet is helping quite a bit. My husband, my grown kids are doing it with me. The theory behind this diet makes sense. The first week we all noticed the increase of energy from the food change. We've lost some weight, but for us it's most important to eat well for our health. Recently, I ate carbs and non-list items (acidy foods) which I would eat everyday, and I felt woozy, shaky and wanted to lay down! My husband had the same experience when he ate acidic foods as well. We will continue with the diet. I would have to read more on the book, and do the exercises outline. Highly recommend the book, but also highly recommend several books to read on the subject and make an informed decision on what is best for you.
Truly a miracle! September 15, 2009 Don Anderson (Seattle) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been transitioning into the principles outlined in this book for one month, and am already a firm believer. Explains the causes of nearly all health problems, and the simple solution. Prove it to yourself. It really works. Thank you Dr. Young.
What Insight! September 11, 2009 Josette Michele (Pasadena, CA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great book and I learned a lot! Reading about our cells from a microbiologist was fascinating and I could hardly put this book down. His ideas and protocols were clearly explained; and he gave options for those that couldn't find or afford some of the supplements. Since reading the book I have met people that had followed his ideas and they have lost weight, sleep better, and have regained their energy. This is a wonderful resource.
What a pleasure!! August 26, 2009 C. K. Drust (Pottstown, Pa.) This book gave me all I needed to know and how to apply it. It has helped me alot. Very glad I found it.
