Excellent Book for Anyone Who Wants to be More Healthy December 6, 2008 Anne Bown (Payson, UT United States) This book was written in 1996, but still has very pertinent information. Pritikin taught a revolutionary diet based on very low fat intake. Gittleman worked with Pritikin and taught his concepts for many years, but later became convinced that fat intake recommendations could be TOO low and that certain fats are essential for good health. So this book is her revised Pritikin diet, full of good suggestions and healthy instructions, as well as some menus and recipes. A good source for not only losing weight, but eating healthy for life.

I applaud Dr. Gittleman for her extensive research and painstaking explanations of the many elements and nuances of nutrition. It becomes obvious, even to the most ardent student of nutrition, that she knows what she's talking about. Her explanation of the role of essential fat is quite possibly the simplest and most complete that I have ever read, and I have read volumes regarding this. My only critique would be that the diet does not take into consideration some very key factors, such as Lean body mass or basal metabolic rate of the dieter. A one-size-fits-all diet is not appropriate or effective for anyone. Consider the caloric needs of a 120 pound sedentary female vs. the caloric needs of a 210 pound male construction worker, and you begin to see my point. In the Authors defence, I'm certain that she would agree. I'm also certain that it was never her intention for everyone to follow her portion guidlines to the letter. I feel that overall this is a valuable book. I only suggest that care be taken when calculating the individuals need for macronutrients.

I have lost 14 pounds in 12 weeks on this program. I lost several inches during the flush then followed with her weekly plans. I don't follow her menu suggestions, but I do follow her recommended amounts and food/fat types each day. To date, I've lost 22 pounds using exercise and this eating program. I'm getting ready to start my next flush in a week and can't wait to see the results! The flush is worth the cost of the book.

I have read every diet book out there. When I found the ivillage site and started reading the Fat Flush Board, I figured the Fat Flush Diet must be creating some pretty dramatic results. I bought Gittleman's first book BEYOND PRITIKIN to follow her program exactly and - wow - the Fat Flush started working on the very first day. I did FAT FLUSH for 6 weeks and then went to her other eating program which added in some carbs. I recommend this book to everyone. I am not hungry and have no cravings but best of all I have absolutely no desire to go back to my old eating habits.

I'm on my fourteenth day of the fat flush. I've lost six inches of fat, nine pounds, and my body shape is looking like my younger self! If I had exercised as suggested, I'm sure I would have burned off more inches. I feel great anyway. Since I'm a rather impatient person, the quick results of this plan has given me the motivation to keep it up and enjoy the thoughtful planning of what I'm going to eat. I just buy lots of fresh vegetables, keep my steamer out, have my evening primrose and safflower oils and am enjoying lean fish, poultry and meat even more. This is very exciting to me! I don't want to end the fat flush as I haven't really missed the carbohydrates! I've just ordered The Living Beauty Detox Program : The Revolutionary Diet for Each and Every Season of a Woman's Life by Ann Louise Gittleman, Ann Castro. I can't wait to read it!
