I love this book March 12, 2010 Mary Alexander (Hawaii) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love this book. Although I've only made five recipes so far, each has turned out beyond my expectations. While the ideas and actions have appeared simple, and truly take 30 minutes or less, the results have been nothing but. The red lentil dahl was subly mild and excellent, the barbecued tempeh outrageously substantial and almost decadent, the coconut rice turned an everyday staple into something special, and the chocolate ganache pie was a revelation. All my life I have thought that "pie" meant flour rolled out into a pastry crust, and that decadent chocolate desserts meant "butter," pickiness and time. But this pie and its live crust blew my mind. That is the quality I am trying to express with this review: that the recipes, by extrapolation, teach. The authors are creative with food in a way I have never encountered. This book is a gift to the world.
Life giving recipes one ingredient at a time! March 12, 2010 Lisa Ward (Port Orchard, WA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Mark Reinfeld and Jennifer Murray's 30 Minute Vegan proves that Vegan is not a "four-letter" word! They have once again demonstrated that when they get together in the kitchen sparks indeed fly! With over 300 pages, the 30 Minute Vegan would inspire even the pickiest meat eater to sample flavors previously unknown to their former bland palate. I am the mother of four children, ages 16, 12, 8 and 4. For the last eight years I have spent time catering to the desires of each family members varying tastebuds, all the while trying to create vegetarian, vegan and raw food for myself. I used to think being vegan had to be expensive and justified giving my children the standard American diet as a result and became overwhelmed cooking several different meals. Although I have many, many cookbooks and have tried to make the switch to veganism before, it was a class I took with Mark and Jennifer (which I would highly recommend!) and their 30 Minute Vegan cookbook that made my transition permanent. Mark and Jennifers personalities come alive throughout the pages of this cookbook. It is full of information, tips and straight-talk. I have finally been empowered with recipes that my family will eat and I no longer have to compromise our health and moral ethics. With recipes like Pasta Florentine, Macadamia Nut-Crusted Tofu, Shiitake-Sea Veggie Chowder, Fajitas Bonitas and Coconut-Lime Banana Bread have become do-overs in the growing list of my family's favorites. So many times I've read cookbooks that say "your child will love this" and thought to myself..."yeah right." But with Mark and Jennifers fabulous variety of plant based recipes, I am fueling my family with life giving foods...one ingredient at a time. If you haven't tried this well organized and thoughtfully creative "life book" you are surely missing out on the opportunity to transform yours (and those you love) tastebuds as well as an opportunity to think about what your definition of REAL food really is!

Great ideas for quick vegan meals! March 10, 2010 Tess Challis (Pagosa Springs, CO) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Although I'm a cookbook author myself, I found lots of wonderful ideas for quick meals in this book. Well worth the price!!
Great for a new vegan March 9, 2010 JLF (Westchester County, NY United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I made a decision three weeks ago to transition from a vegetarian to vegan diet. I worked with a nutrition counselor and did a lot of research and stocked up my vegan pantry. And then I stumbled across this wonderful book. I like to cook but I don't like to spend too much time doing it. I found that I have most items called for in the recipes on hand. The Quinoa Kitchari and the Tempeh "Bacon" are both delicious!
