Amazing!! November 18, 2009 Jessica Hallermann (Bixby, Oklahoma) I love this book!! It has so many great idea's for baby food. I would definitely recommend this to new moms like myself or even moms that are just wanting to feed there baby healthyer baby food.
Great for the non-cooker November 9, 2009 Mary Jane Stephenson (south jersey) This book has really helped my daughter... who doesn't really cook much.. make the best baby food... has been quick and easy. Many good ideas even a good cook doesn;t think about... good investment in our baby's health.
Great Recipes November 6, 2009 somethingsweet I had not planned to be mom who made her own baby food (it seemed like a big hassle and I thought I was too busy!) but after my son's pediatrician made it sound easy, I did a little research and bought this book. I used it until my son was a little over a year old and he was mostly able to eat the table food that we were eating, and I have to say that I was very pleased with it.
Pros:
1. I made a lot of the recipes in this book, and they were all actually really tasty. My son loved everything from liver to vegetables. He was always excited to try new foods, because they were always good.
2. Every recipe notes whether it is suitable for freezing or not. If it is, you can make a big batch, slop it over an ice-cube tray, and freeze, then store the cubes in serving sizes in the freezer.
3. Many of the recipes have beautiful pictures next to them of the recipe - this may not matter to you, but it was really motivating for me to make a lot of recipes, because it all looked so appetizing.
4. Lots of great ideas for food combinations to try that I wouldn't have thought of.
5. Index in the back of the book where you can look up recipes by ingredient.
Cons:
1. Some other people have noted this as well - the author is British, and they must have different recommended ages for starting infants on some foods. Specifically, she has recipes using fish and cow's milk starting at 8 months, and the guidelines in the U.S. have you start those foods at 1 year. So just be aware of that.
2. Many of the meat recipes call for chicken stock that you make from scratch yourself. I used the sodium-free chicken stock powder, and it made those recipes much, much easier. Wyler makes it, and they use potassium instead of sodium.
Even my 8 year old likes "baby purees" October 19, 2009 M. Tilghman (Vancouver, WA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this cookbook. With my third and last baby, I wanted to make my own baby food. I didn't have any idea where to begin, so I purchased this book. The recipes are delicious. My 8 year old asks to try all of the purees now....they're that good. The recipes are suprisingly flavorful. My husband and I ate about half of the beef stew before I pureed it, and I'm a salt fiend. I purchase this book all the time now and give it as a baby shower gifts.
Really great recipes, no nutritional info! October 12, 2009 K. Middleton (DC Area) Loved the recipes, good ideas. There were a few recipes repeated in it. My complaint is that there is no nutritional data for the recipes. My son is on a special diet and I need to know caloric info, etc., and it isn't listed. Otherwise, great book!
