5 out of 5 stars Systematic presentation of Neuroradiology   October 25, 2008
Eagle Vision (Southeastern United States)
Ann Osborn is one of the most amazing Neuroradiologists for her knowledge and ability to entertain, as a guest lecturer. Her book is well organized by presenting material in a clear, concise method with excellent photographs, illustrations and summary boxes. Topics cover everything from trauma, stroke to intra-axial and extra-axial tumors. The spine is also covered, very well.

This book is a classic text of this subspecialty. However, it has some limitations:

No recent updates or plan for updates
No head and neck topics, especially temporal bones and sinuses

However, complementary to this book is Head and Neck Imaging by Peter Som:

Head and Neck Imaging CD-ROM and Book Package

The update to this text is the following:

Diagnostic Imaging: Brain

It is an easy read for a resident in the 1st month of your neuroradiology rotation and can be read in a month with a high degree of retention. You will need a book to complement your knowledge for head and neck topics.

Other books to consider are below:

Neuroradiology: The Requisites (Requisites in Radiology)

Brain Imaging: Case Review Series (Case Review)

Head & Neck Imaging: Case Review Series

Spine Imaging: Case Review Series (Case Review)

Conclusion:

This is a must read. I highly recommend this book.

4 out of 5 stars Ver good, but...   June 27, 2007

First of all this book has aged well and when compared to current texbooks it is fantastic. Also it is much better than the new textbook that she has produced, which is simplz a list of diagnoses. During training it is very important to dispose of a textbook where in addition to the images (a requisite for any radiology book) there should be a good text to read as well as an extensive bibliographz. While probably the best neuroradiology textbook remains the one by Taveras this on is very pleasant to read. The tables are exceptionally well presented and alone they make the purchase mandatory. On the negative side, the spinal section is way too short for any neuroradiology textbook and also it is not really up-to-date on more modern techniques such as diffusion and perfusion MRI. I know these techniques emerged as the bok came out and this may seem unfair as a critique in that repsect but whoever buys this book must know that additionally getting another more technically oriented texbook would be good (such as the Scott Atlas one).

4 out of 5 stars VERY USEFULL   November 19, 2006
RESIDENT (HERAKLION-GREECE)
4 STARS JUST BECAUSE IT IS A LITTLE OLD. THERE IS NO INFO ABOUT DIFFUSION-PERFUSION. IT IS A PITTY THAT SHE WON'T WRITE A NEW ONE. ECXEPT THAT, IT IS THE MOST COMPLET AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND NEURORAD-TEXTBOOK.

4 out of 5 stars new edition: think again   July 16, 2006

I have heard Annie thinks that electronic info sources and book formats like her Brain:DI. book are the way of the future and therefore a retread of this "obsolete" format (actual sentences) unnecessary. Too bad for us.

5 out of 5 stars Will there ever be an update ?   June 5, 2006

This is an excellent book. It has all the requisites for comprehencing and understanding the central nervous system imaging. The only defect is that it is an old book. Will there be a newer version of it soon ? or ever ? Does anyone know ?
