Overall a good solid plan September 27, 2009 bklynmermaid (brooklyn, NY) While I agree that the first couple chapters of this book were more annoying than informative (think cutesy illustrations of liver-workers), this is a solid plan. I've been doing my own research on eating anti-inflammatory, and it dovetails nicely. I was eating fairly healthy, but after starting this regime I realized I was slipping in too many poor food choices on a daily basis (feta, parm, you know who you are). Eliminating dairy for me I think was key. I don't think this plan is terribly difficult to follow if you're already health-conscious. I'm a pretty good cook, so I don't stick to the recipes, just use hers as an ingredient list, following anti-inflammatory principles (eat lots of oily fish, etc). She suggests one of the ideas I've been using for a long time--using chicken or vegetable stock in place of oil to saute. One of the precepts I most enjoy is the idea if you cheat one day, you have to stay two extra days on the regime. That makes sense to me--sometimes it's difficult not to have a glass of wine or eat out with friends, and I find for myself the idea of total deprivation does not work. It's not realistic long-term. It's been 2 weeks and I've lost 5 lbs, never once being hungry. If anything, I've found my appetite incredibly diminished, which I think may be due to the generous amounts of healthy fats and grains in this regime. I can for-see sticking to a loose interpretation of this plan after I'm finished-- adding in red wine, dark chocolate and yoghurt!
Effective for results August 24, 2009 Angelsdodger (VENTURA, CA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Dr. Cabot's diet really works -- You feel great, and lose weight, too.
However, Dr. Cabot is sometimes arbitrary and inconsistent with nutritional advice. You may not have milk, but you may have organic milk. You may not have sugar, but you may have its nutritional equivalent, honey. You should not eat red meat, but 3 or 4 times a week should not hurt.
Dr. Cabot advises taking dandelion, a diuretic, but fails to advise that one should eat an orange or banana to replace lost potassium.
Great concepts for better health June 29, 2009 G. Wallace (Austin, TX) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a good book filled with great ideas. I did not follow every aspect of the diet as it is extremely radical. I can say that after reading the book and following some of the ideas I feel better, have more energy, and am even allergy free now.
One of the concepts in this book is to eliminate dairy from your diet. After doing so my seasonal allergies have been virtually eliminated. Also I have lost about 10% of my weight in about 3 months, going from 225 to 200
A healthy liver is the key to good health and this book gives you great advice to improve the health of yours.

Great book, very informative and detailed yet easy to read. Helped me dramatically reduce my liver enzyme levels. A must read if you have fatty liver disease. Will really help you change your diet and understand the ramnification of poor diets and liver disorders. Also tells u the best supplements to take. A+!
