Product Description Diabetes has become a seemingly unstoppable national epidemic, affecting more than twenty million Americans. Conventional wisdom calls it incurable, but renowned Dr. Gabriel Cousens counters that claim with this breakthrough book. There Is a Cure for Diabetes lays out a three-week plan for reversing the negative genetic expression of diabetes to a physiology of health and well-being. Dr. Cousens’s method, widely tested at his famous Tree of Life centers, is to reset the DNA through green juice fasting and a 100% organic, nutrient-dense, vegan, low-glycemic, low-insulin-scoring, and high-mineral diet of living foods in the first twenty-one days. Both practical and inspirational, the book explains how to abandon the widespread “culture of death”–symbolized by addictive junk food–that fosters diabetes in favor of a more natural, nurturing approach. The program renders insulin and related medicines unnecessary within four days as the blood sugar drops to normal levels; and the diabetic shifts into a non-diabetic physiology within two weeks. The third week focuses on live-food preparation, featuring 100 delicious raw recipes. Dr. Cousens emphasizes regular consultations, monitoring blood chemistries, and emotional support, and includes a one-year support program to help maintain a diabetes-free life.

like a good habit - hard to form and easy to live with February 27, 2010 L. Richmond (Virginia) I recommend this book for anyone dealing with blood sugar problems. Its one of those books you read and than refer to many times. I've recommended it to 6 or 8 people already and I haven't even finished it yet. Its a really good book.
Lifesaving Information February 20, 2010 Patricia Nesbit (Gillette, WY) I am a Type 2 diabetic and have been searching for someone who makes sense regarding diabetes and diet. I have been to diabetic education and read tons about diabetes and nutrition. The information I have read, until now, pretty much is similar blather. Gabriel Cousens book is fantastic and makes total sense! There has to be a different way of eating because what's going on isn't working and people are only getting sicker. The information in this book explaining the processes leading up to diabetes in Type 2 diabetics is interesting, informative, and makes sense. I think every doctor needs to read this book and I am taking it with me to my appointment on March 5th to share with my endocrinologist. This book is an eye opening read and I hope that anyone with diabetes reads this book and really considers the implications and impact of what Dr. Cousens shares. Thank you for an awesome book and hope that yes, I can, and will, reverse my diabetes! Blessings!
Confusing at best February 6, 2010 S. Levanduski (Henderson, NV US) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This was the most confusing book I ever read! First, Dr. Cousens tells you to keep your fat calories to no more than 10-15% of your total calories. Then he tells you a tablespoon of coconut oil a day is OK, as well as a handful of walnuts, flax seeds, flax oil, etc etc. This diet is actually higher in fat than the SAD! According to Dr. Douglas Graham, who wrote "80-10-10", excess fat is the cause of diabetes, because it coats the cells, and the sugar in the bloodstream cannot enter the cells.
I have been on 80-10-10 for a few weeks, and felt amazing, but wanted to give this a try. After one day I felt the energy drain from my body. I brought the book back, and thankfully got my money back! If you want to go on a raw diet, and feel like you are 20 again, go on 80-10-10 and forget this nonsense! Your blood sugar will stabilize after a few weeks, even eating fruit! Also, I don't know if anyone has noticed this yet, but Dr Cousens has a full blown internet media campaign going for this raw for 30 stuff. Save your money, people.
No New Information January 23, 2010 Tiffany Barker (Seattle, WA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought the book for information on treating diabetes and was very disappointed. Doctors, even western doctors, have been recommending low fat, low glycemic diets for Type II diabetics since my father was diagnosed in the 70's. The connection between diet, weight, excercise, stress and diabetes has long been known. In fact they "cure" Type II diabetes on the tv program "Biggest Loser" every season. In addition, the factors leading to increased incidence of Type II diabetes in this country have been well publicized. Thus, I found very no new or earth shattering information here.
Doesn't understand diabetes January 20, 2010 Froggy Fan (Malden, MA USA) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
I searched through this book and found the incredible claim that this program cures Type 1 diabetes. That is physically impossible without a beta cell transplant! You can't produce insulin unless you have functioning beta cells, and if you are a type 1 diabetic, you don't. Full stop. I think his program is probably helpful if you have type 2 diabetes, and may help slow the transition to type 1 diabetes in LADA, but no way is it curing type 1 diabetes. He raises false hopes and makes promises he can't keep, hence the one star.
