| Customer Reviews: Good choice to help head off food issues... December 14, 2009 Zig Schwartz (Boston, MA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this book for my daughter when I realized she seemed to be eating more often than usual. It took me a while to catch on, but she had started eating for comfort, when she was feeling bad about something. I think this book was a great start toward helping her understand why the was eating. Now we are helping her find other outlets for her stress, like exercise, etc. She uses the book herself to make better food choices at mealtimes. I wish books like this weren't necessary, but we live in a stressful society, and it is important to help kids learn to manage their stress. This book isn't a substitute for therapy, but it does give a budding teenager a good start toward a positive relationship with food. I recommend this to any parent with a young daughter who's struggling with body image, nutrition or weight. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is that it is pretty much just for girls - but that's what American Girl does. Parents of boys might face similar issues, but they will have to look elsewhere.

Food & your preteen January 28, 2009 R. Kucher 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is worthwhile in that it provides basic nutrition knowledge to preteen girls. But reading the book is one thing, and following through is another. The preteen in my life did not immediately benefit from this and change her lifestyle, but the seeds of good nutrition were definitely planted, and they seem to be starting to sprout. SO in general i guess this is a useful tool.
