4 out of 5 stars Not Hungry Anymore   August 21, 2009
Kelly A. Pillsbury (MA, USA)

I have only been following the diet for a week or so, but my appetite has already changed from out-of-control to a normal pattern of becoming hungry 30-60 minutes before meal-time. I used to wake up hungry in the middle of the night, not anymore. I had already been following a 'healthy' diet (have been trying to lose 'the baby weight' for years), but was just over-eating due to constant hunger. I try to limit refined flours and sugar within reason and eat quality proteins and carbs. So far I have not experienced any weight loss and I am not sure why, caloric intake has not been too high. The occasional dessert WITH your meal is a nice solution to not feeling as though you are on a diet.

The book's technical detail made my head spin at times, but reading the facts and understanding the biology and chemistry behind the diet allowed me to be on board with changing my routine. I will come back and update in a few months, hopefully by then I will be down a dress size! Give the Leptin Diet combined with a low glycemic-index menue plan a try, it may be your key to permanent weight-loss.

5 out of 5 stars tremendous resource!   August 19, 2009

This book is fantastic! I read the Rosedale Diet before this one and was intrigued by the leptin hormone but the Rosedale Diet lacked information as well as support for his suggestions. When I read this book, I was so excited to see the science research behind leptin. I could then see how The Rosedale Diet was off on many points! This book is soooo good that I bought several copies to be able to hand out to people. We must get the word out about this hormone and how mastering it could save many lives!

5 out of 5 stars Are you Serious about Gaining Control of Your Weight...   August 9, 2009

....then read 'Mastering Leptin', and put into practice the wisdom of the advice given within
the pages of this book. I am a nurse with nutritional training, yet never before reading this
book, was I able to put the knowledge from my training into such common sense context.
I've started to regain control of my weight, and at 60, that's not such an easy thing to do.

1 out of 5 stars Not good advice   July 31, 2009

As someone who has struggled off and on with my weight for many years, this book was no help to me at all. I'm not obese by any means, but about 20 pounds overweight. I found that when I followed one of the main "rules", only eating 3 times a day, by the time I got home from work, I would be pyscho and go for the first thing that I saw - usually potato chips that my husband eats. Since reading this overly scientific book, I have been seeing a nutritionist, eating 5 small meals a day, and have lost 8 pounds in two weeks and feel great - something I never could do eating only 3 times a day. I think this is bad advice and a better choice for helping the obesity epidemic in the county is to be solved, eat smaller meals more often and step away from the stupid reality shows on TV and get moving.

4 out of 5 stars Mastering Leptin   July 30, 2009

Byron J. Richards is a board certified Clinical Nutritionist. In the book he gives the latest research on the Hormone Leptin and what to do to help get it to work like it should. It seems overweight people have too much of it and need to learn how to get it working again.

The book's filled with information on nutrition, health problems and what supplements will help to control Leptin. The basic rules are simple and easy to understand. There's no counting calories and all the usual stuff that most diet books demand. I don't like counting calories or fat grams, been there done that and it's not for me.

I've been trying this out and it appears that I've lost an inch off my hips. I should weigh myself, but that's too depressing. I do much better when I don't do that. My problem is learning to eat smaller meals; I think the weight would come off much quicker if I did. I like to ease into these things slowly, because in the past I always jumped in and failed miserably.

You can pretty much eat what you want, but the trick is timing and quantity. Or at least that's my take on it. While the diet seems old fashioned in some respects, the information isn't and if you're looking for answers on how to achieve a healthy weight, this book might be of help.
