Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
See inside every stretch--and maximize flexibility! Stretching Anatomy will arm you with the knowledge to increase range of motion, supplement training, enhance recovery, and maximize efficiency of movement. Youll also gain a detailed understanding of how each stretch affects your body. Stretching Anatomy is like having an X-ray of each stretch, only better. Not only do you see full-color illustrations of the muscles in action, but you also find out how changes in position can alter the muscle emphasis and difficulty and how variations can improve safety and effectiveness. Each exercise includes detailed instruction on how to stretch, when to stretch, primary and secondary muscle emphasis, and which muscles are activated for support. Stretching programs provide three levels of difficulty, including light stretching that can be used as a warm-up or to aid in recovery from soreness or injury. And summary movement tables show how to customize stretching programs to focus on key problem areas.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect!   November 25, 2008

I am a physical therapist and I LOVE this book. I'm showing it to my patients and to my bodybuilding trainee. The illustrations explicitly detail the muscles being stretched, and the book gives appropriate advice on stretching.

3 out of 5 stars Stretching Anatomy   November 9, 2008

Whilst this book is OK, only about half of the drawings have the anatomy drawn onto the person performing the stretch, which is really disappointing. The accompanying text for each stretch (about 70 in total) is useful. A much better bet would be The Anatomy of Stretching by Brad Walker, which includes 114 stretches, with each drawing featuring detailed anatomy of the muscles being worked. (The text in the Walker book also relates each stretch to relevant sports, which is an excellent feature to complete the picture for the reader.)

As a massage therapist, I was looking for a thorough book on stretching that I can utilize with my clients. Information is clear and to the point. Diagrams are detailed. I especially like that it specifies most & lessor stretched muscles.

A good buy! Very good information for the muscle groups and how they work in the stretch. I like that it was broken down into muscle groups and showed all the different ways to stretch.

2 out of 5 stars Not for beginners   September 25, 2008

Has a good description of the exercise, but does not give you a good guidance on how to plan an exercise routine and dangers or contraindications of the exercise.
