Great = ) October 1, 2008 Cynthia Vastey This was my first time buying something online, and it worked out great! I love the book and the price!
Boron beats Guyton...well, Boron beats EVERYTHING!! September 18, 2008 J. PEREZ (Omnipresent) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The basis of everything that happens in our universe is chemistry. The basis of function or disease is biochemistry. Boron makes sure that you understand that right from the start. This book takes a diferent aproach to physiology, focusing mainly on molecular and chemical interactions betwen cells and, ultimately, organs and systems. Complex mechanisms regulate the cells response to stmuli and these mechanisms are ultimately responsible of secretion, growth or death. Physiology can be as simple as this hormone stimulates this tissue , but without understanding the mechanism, how can we hope to repair it? Boron takes physiology to new heights, explaining complex machinery this hormone binds to this receptor, changing the protein structure, and enables several cytoplasmic molecules to interact with it, thus activating enzymes to increase sintesis of this factor... and it goes on and on. The amazing comlexity is paired with accurate images that explain everything in the text. This book is the best ilustrated book that I have seen so far in my career. Also the text is easy to read, understand and follow. To my personal taste, this book achieves te pinnacle of what a medical book, regardless the subject, should be: heavily ilustrated, well writen and deep molecular oriented presentation. This is my favoite book, give it a try.
Comprehensive Physiology Textbook September 3, 2008 Bryan Mcconomy (Carbondale, IL) This physiology textbook is for more advanced readers. It is not for those who are just starting physiology with little background knowledge. It has many helpful illustrations, and the book is well written. Other good textbook's include Vander's Physiology and Medical Physiology (Guyton). All are very good textbooks and very informative.
Too Much Info April 9, 2008 Ray Biersbach (NY, NY) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is just too good. It is too much info for a 2-3 month course but might make a good reference text for complex questions.
Boron's Physiology February 9, 2008 C. Rivas (Bogota, Colombia) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great book. Very thorough. Includes the latest findings on molecular biology that affect physiology. A bit dense though. The online link to student consult is extremely useful.
