Amazon.com Review
"It isn't what you eat or how much you eat that makes you fat, it is when you eat and what you eat together," announces this follow-up to the smash original Beverly Hills diet plan. In a switch from the original, this updated version gives day-to-day advice and support and a full 35-day menu plan that includes a more balanced diet that includes animal protein (the first 10 days of the original diet included nothing but fruit). There's no portion control or forbidden foods, ergo the book's mantra: "Cheesecake and cheekbones, hamburgers and hipbones." Enthusiastic and encouraging author Judy Mazel dropped from 180 to 108 pounds by following this diet, optimizing the enzymatic action of foods by eating fruits by themselves, by not mixing carbohydrates with proteins or eating carbohydrates after proteins, and by following protein with protein. The many additional rules of this diet may be hard to keep track of, but the guideline that's easy to remember is that champagne goes with everything (however, wine goes with fruit, and other alcoholic beverages should be combined with other carbohydrates). Warning: some of the prescribed fruits--there are mangoes, papayas, pineapples, and apricots galore--will be hard to find out of season for anyone who doesn't live in southern California.

Product Description
Imagine a program where you can indulge in your favorite foods--from steak to pasta, and even champagne--and still lose weight easily. Then imagine being able to maintain your new slim shape forever. With this new program, author Judy Mazel has made your dreams a reality. She shows you how to take charge of the foods you eat to achieve a lifestyle eating plan that will keep you off the "fat track" for good.

The secret to your new slimhood rests with Conscious Combining. Refined and expanded from its introduction in Mazel's original book, this technique teaches you how and when to mix different food groups for optimum weight control. You'll also learn the four golden rules of weight management, plus the significance of enzyme interaction in weight loss.

The program now includes a 35-day "Born Again Skinny" diet with recipes for your new food lifestyle. This is a diet many Hollywood stars have embraced. Judy's private client list has included luminaries such as Jack Nicholson, Jodie Foster, Maria Shriver and Engelbert Humperdinck. They, and countless others, found this to be the lifestyle eating plan that changed their shape forever.

5 out of 5 stars A Way of Eating, Not Necessarily a Diet--And it WORKS!   July 28, 2008

This book is IT!!! Judy finally hits home the basics of healthy eating, in a way that's sustainable for an entire lifetime.

Like so many, I've struggled for years researching diets, how to maintain myy weight as I grow older. First let me say that all the bad reviews of this diet are not telling you the whole story. What they tell you is how hard and unhealthy the "diet" is to do. But what they don't explain is that Judy is describing a way of eating, based on the biological process of digestion, and the diet aspect of the book is only half of the chapters. The other half has to do with what she calls "Conscious Combining," a way of eating certain kinds of foods at certain times of the day (or really, one before the other). And let me tell you, it WORKS.

Have you ever felt bloated after eating a piece of fruit and it just stays in your stomach? She'll tell you why. Have you ever felt like what you ate is just not digesting--it just FEELS like it's not good for you? She'll tell you why that is and how you can fix it. It's absolutely amazing. With this way of eating, you can eat ANYTHING YOU WANT and as much as you want; the golden rule is recognizing WHEN to eat what--and we don't mean what time of the day, either--and SUPPLEMENTING your diet with fruits with enzymatic benefits.

For SO LONG, I had NO IDEA why I kept gaining weight. I'd eat very very HEALTHY foods--I'd rarely if ever eat fast food or red meat or desserts. But I kept getting BIGGER. Have you been here? I couldn't figure it out; when I was in high school I could eat starbursts and skittles all day and stay thin. Now, I eat a turkey sandwich with fat free mayo and I would GAIN WEIGHT. But I thought the key to a healthy weight is eating healthy? After all, isn't that what the generations before did, before we as Americans got into the obesity spiral? Well...not exactly. Why the pre-baby boomer generations were healthier has assuredly a lot to do with what they ate (chemical free, smaller portions, etc), but also a lot to do with the explanations that Judy details in her book. While it was a part of their lifestyle more naturally, in an age of food variety and mixing, we must be more deliberate.

The best thing about Judy's book, and why I recommend it to ANYONE, even someone who has no need of weight loss, is my testimonial: I didn't even have to do the diet in the book to start losing weight and maintaining my norm! All I did was follow Judy's lifestyle eating RULES (not the "diet"), did a little exercise (to lose the weigh "my way"), and I went back to my size 5 figure within a month. No pain necessary.

Don't get discouraged! There are a lot of people out there who would LOVE for you to stay fat to feed the industry that delves out more diet books, more diet pills, more products for you to purchase so that you never really understand the scientific process that happens when you digest food. Don't buy the neg reviews; you don't know who's writing them. Get this book as a start to really learning the truth about human food consumption and its effects on the body.

1 out of 5 stars This diet is GROSS. STAY AWAY.   August 17, 2006

This diet makes you feel weak, it makes you feel light headed, and it makes you hate fruit with a PASSION. Why don't you try eating only watermelon or grapes for a day and tell me how YOU feel...along with all of the other days being mostly acidic fruits that cause ulcers and the corners of your mouth to be raw from the juice. It makes you have diarrhea and stomach pains, and I'm sorry but NO AMOUNT of weight makes that ok. It's the diet of a compulsive eater and a bulimic, and I can't believe I bought into this diet. Ask any health expert, and they will tell you to stay away. You might as well fast like an anerexic , binge like a compulsive eater, and purge yourself of the food through taking exlax...it will have the same effect.. I am SO GROSSED OUT BY THIS DIET!PLEASE don't do this to yourself..I know you may see this and think...she just screwed up the diet and is mad at herself for it and is taking it out on the diet...I am not doing that, and I just don't want anyone to do this to themselves..I was reading a blog from someone who said that she got a severe condition because of this diet that has stayed with her for over a year now...Don't do this to yourself..I don't care how good fruit is for you...its not good in HUGE amounts and you can't live off of it...find another diet and be healthy.

4 out of 5 stars After first day, I'm down 2 1/2 pounds!   August 6, 2006

Yes you heard right. 2 1/2 pounds after only one day on this fantastic diet. Now I know it may be water weight, but hey it's less weight on the scale and that's half the battle when you are starting off a diet because the quick water weight loss keeps you motivated. There is a TON of fruit on this diet and this morning I have to eat a good deal of prunes...but I also can look forward to days on the diet coming up when I can eat whatever I want in moderation and know that I wont gain weight because it will be followed by fruit days that will keep me from gaining a pound. This is a healthy diet. Fruit, carbs(other then fruit),protien, and healthy fats like olive oil. I feel like I'm learning a new way of living that will be livable and once you get off the weight you need you adapt her moderate approach that is only fruit in the moring and then the correct combining for the rest of the day. Its great.

I lost 20 pounds on this diet over 5 years ago and havent gained a pound back. I think alot of people start out negative with this diet, they are constanly trying to disprove that is works. Be positive and give this diet a chance, yes its a hard diet but it works and if you actually ready the book you can keep the weight off. After the first two weeks on this diet I felt so energetic and refreshed. I suggest buying canned sliced pineapple (in juice not syrup) its less messy and can save alot of money. Good luck dont get discouraged.

4 out of 5 stars quite surprised!   October 29, 2005

Ok... so i was SO suspicious! I thought anyone who eats fruit for days on end will lose weight! But today is my 5th Day I have stuck to the plan and am eating a LOT! I have lost 4.5 pounds and am really surprised being a protien/carb every meal kinda gal. To start with you may think I am overweight so the weight is all water etc etc., but actually I just wanted to lose a few vanity pounds (about 10) and couldnt shake them even with exercise high protien, so i decided to shock my body with this diet and see what happened. Needless to say I was not that optimistic, but after only 5 days I am converted and think that it obviously does work. Go for it!
