| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Review This comprehensive book explains in lucid, assured terms how to practice the fertility awareness method (FAM), a natural, scientifically proven but little-known form of birth control (which is not to be confused with the woefully ineffective "rhythm" method). Author Toni Weschler has been teaching fertility awareness for almost 20 years, and it's only just now gaining in popularity. As the book explains, by using simple fertility signs including peaks in morning body temperature and changes in cervical position and cervical mucus, it's possible to determine when ovulation is taking place. Fertility awareness is therefore useful for not only couples who are trying to conceive, but for those who are aiming to avoid pregnancy without the use of chemical contraceptives. It will be of special interest to those women who have suffered from infertility; many FAM practitioners have told the author that by filling in the detailed charts in the book, they've realized that they were chronically miscarrying, even when their doctors told them they weren't conceiving at all. As the book explains, by charting body temperature, it's simple to tell when pregnancy has occurred--and when there's danger of miscarriage. Taking Charge of Your Fertility also explains how to choose the sex of your baby by timing intercourse according to certain fertility signs. It also features thorough, easy-to-understand explanations of hormones, the menstrual cycle, and menopause, along with fertility tests and treatments and their long- and short-term side effects, plus a topnotch resource section. Recommended for any woman who wants to better understand her body. --Erica Jorgensen

The Bible of Fertility Awareness November 22, 2008 Mama Bean (Central Virginia) Considered the "Bible" of Fertility Awareness (FAM), this book is a real eye-opener for women and girls of all ages. The information about our bodies that is contained in this book is invaluable, and should really be taught to every girl approaching puberty (or sooner!). You will wonder why you weren't taught/didn't know the secrets that your body shares with you every month or so during different steps in your fertility cycles. Do you realize that the "due dates" doctors project for their pregnant patients can be completely inaccurate, depending on the length of your cycle and when you ovulated the month you conceived? Really awesome information. (FYI, This is not your mother's "Rhythm Method" of the past.) To complete the journey from preconception health, to pregnancy, to birth and beyond, look to Healing Our Children: Because Your New Baby Matters! Sacred Wisdom for Preconception, Pregnancy, Birth and Parenting (ages 0-6) by Ramiel Nagel. The Fertility Awareness Method or Natural Family Planning is recommended by Ramiel as the only method of contraception safe enough to ensure the healthiest pregnancy and child possible.
Didn't know that I didn't know. November 19, 2008 Heather (Bay Area, California) This is a great comprehensive book! I learned a lot of information about my body that I was unaware that I didn't know. Why isn't this anatomy information taught in high school health?
Great! November 10, 2008 A. Gibson (Kentucky) I have only had this book for a short time, but it has already been very helpful. It is simple and informative. Exactly what I was hoping for so I am very pleased.
excellent book!! November 2, 2008 Kim Dorris (Midvale, UT USA) Hey, this book has soo much more information that i ever thought a book could hold!!! Pictures in the book are graphic, but extremely helpful!!
Valuable information November 2, 2008 jules (Evergreen, CO) I'm amazed at how much I didn't know about my body. This is full of very valuable information. I wish I would have discovered it years ago. A friend recommended it to me because I shared my desire to get pregnant. This is the kind of information that young women should be exposed to in school. It might help them avoid unwanted pregnancies if they knew more about timing and natural signs that their bodies give them each month. I will certainly recommend it to my daughters.
