The text integrates the sociological, biomedical and social-psychological perspectives of drug abuse problems in language accessible to students at all levels. It discusses the origins of drug-abuse related issues, the unique features of psychoactive substances, their potential short- and long-term consequences, and current treatment strategies.

Altho a difficult read this is a great teaching textJuly 5, 1998 JFrank1954@aol.com(Milwaukee, Wisconsin) 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
This text provides informative and up to date information regarding a broad range of drug related topic. Althought the reading level is not easy, the information is extremely useful for drug counselors. The information presented regarding psychopharmacology provides an excellent base of preparation for the certification test used in many states. I highly recommend this text as well as many of the web site exercises.
