New to pilates September 18, 2009 A. Hadley (Niceville FL) I have been doing yoga for about a year now and I have been wanting to try pilates. I tried this dvd based on the good reviews. Just wish we could preview them first! Her voice was a wee bit iritating to me. I'm used to the slow and controlled movements of yoga but she was way way to slow and boring. She gave no alternate methods to the movements if you are new and not super limber as she is. The movements did not flow from one to the next as she had you sitting up and lying down, sitting up and lying down. I'm just disappointed as I really wanted to try pilates. I just need to find another dvd to get me to like it! If anyone has a suggestion on a dvd that is bit more upbeat (not talking Richard Simmons upbeat!) and gives alternatives to the posititons please let me know!
Love it! August 24, 2009 Amanda Graves I love this video. I was only on the beginner level for a few days. It was really easy for me. I started the intermediate. It was so awesome. I am just now on the challenging level. Absolutely love it. 3 times a week and I feel great! I have definition in my arms that I have never had before.
Very Good Pilates Instruction July 20, 2009 Breana Claton This DVD is working very well for me, I am new to Pilates and a bit overweight so the combination was just what I was looking for since it has three levels, so I can use it for quite awhile, and also get in better shape.
Karen is a very good instructorm and as mentioned by others she has been directly trained as an instructor from the experts (Romoana).
Anyway there are three main sections Beginning, Intermediate and Challenging that has a variety of workouts an d variations. Before going into those, I recommend watching the general lesson for the DVD, then each lesson for each level as you reach it.
Each section/level builds on the last one by adding more things and making the things you learned a bit more challenging/less modified. Some really nice things include routines that you can use weights and other items for further workouts.
I'm very pleased with this and recommend it to my friends.
Not bad July 10, 2009 T. Hill (Michigan) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this based upon the great reviews but it is not as great as I thought it would be. First, it doesn't transition very well from exercise to exercise. One minute you're laying on your back, the next minute you are standing. Not fluid. It does have varying levels which is good. This is my first Pilates video but I think I'll try another one.
Meh May 27, 2009 Diana G (NY, NY) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I've been using pilates dvds for 3 years now. I've pretty much stuck to Ellen Barrett in her crunch series etc and decided to see if there was anything else good out there. Although they say this dvd has over 15 workouts, they really have about 4 per level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) which build on each other based on time length. So a 20 min session has the 15 minutes of the 15min session, plus 5 new minutes.
In all honesty, I hate this dvd. The instructor is behind the camera (unless shes giving a tutorial), and her voice is loud and annoying. Her cues are sometimes unnecessary, for lack of a better word. Worst of all, there are only about 4 reps per exercise, no sets.
Don't expect this dvd to have a workout routine, its more of a "one exercise edited to the next" sort of thing.
I wouldn't waste my money on it, if I were you. You really can't imagine how annoying this woman's voice is. Look up Ellen Barrett, she's an amazing instructor, and she really gets you motivated. Her cues are great, and you don't feel as though you're watching an exercise segment from the 80s.
