Amazon.com At a time when we know so much about choosing safe, effective exercises, reissuing Cindy Crawford's 1992 best-selling disaster, Shape Your Body, is inexcusable. Swimsuit-clad Cindy puts herself through flings and gyrations that show off her body but aren't any good for anyone else's. She presents one after another of the exercises that fitness professionals threw out of their routines two decades ago because they're ineffective and risky to back and joints. Her alignment is awful; her control nonexistent. She rounds her back and flings her leg into high kicks. She does squats letting her knees go way past her toes. Even when the exercises are decently chosen and performed, she does them much too quickly, relying on momentum instead of muscle power, such as two-second bent-over rows. Trainer Radu, who designed and coached this workout, should be sentenced to an eternity of fast donkey kicks, leg swings, and trunk circles. This "toning" video would be a joke, except that you really could get hurt following it. In fact, when Shape Your Body first came out, fitness expert Peg Jordan, author of Fitness Instinct, appeared on CNN warning viewers about the risks of this video. "I received a call from a chiropractor who had treated 12 patients' back injuries from that video alone!" she recalls. If you've got to have this one, watch it only, don't do it. --Joan Price

Cindy is my hero! August 17, 2009 Amazon Bean (New Haven, CT USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been using this workout since HS and no matter what kind of new workout I find, I always come back to this one. When I decide to get my strength and stamina back, I find my Cindy workout, and get to work. It's grueling the first time back, but after a week, it's easier and I feel much stronger.
10 Years Later And Still Kicking My Butt July 30, 2009 Belle (Washington, D.C.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I used to do these workout tapes (yes, tapes) with my sister when I was starting college -- we both love the music selection for both workouts. As a former gymnast, cheerleader, swimmer, diver, I clearly don't consider a work out good unless I'm sore in places I didn't know I had. These workouts are perfect. When I saw Cindy doing the same work out exercises I used to do for gymnastics (which gave me a great shape), I knew I was on the right track (my sister says some were from her ballet practice as well). In this first video she does go a little fast from one set to the next, but that's why they invented pause right?
If you don't feel like going to the gym, but want to get a solid 40 minute work out at home without having to be "peppy" or watch some one who is "peppy", I highly recommend this workout. I can't believe I'm saying this 10 years later, but Cindy still kicks my butt. :) Thanks!
Only if you can keep yourself safe May 25, 2009 J. Hannah (Los Angeles, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't really recommend this video to people who are not familiar with safety. It is OLD SCHOOL form as one reviewer has mentioned. I will however say that if you know where to engage, and use total core control, it can be fun and beneficial. Radu and Cindy do not give enough cues on safety and muscular engagement. If you know how to take care of yourself by not pushing and relying on momentum, then take it for what it is---a creative workout (I have seen far dangerous dvd's in today's market). I'd like to see someone come out with a dvd that has Shape Your Body's cinematography and creativity with more emphasis on safety and controlled movements.
