Amazon.com So here's a portrait of yoga in the 21st Century: this ancient discipline, created thousands of years ago to enhance the meditative experience (the asanas or poses commonly used in hatha yoga were in fact designed to enable meditators to sit quietly, calmly and comfortably for hours on end), is now "a total body blast," with users urged to "get hard core" and "feel the groove," all so "your torso will look buff." At least that's how Ellen Barrett, the relentlessly sunny instructor featured in Crunch Yoga's Super SlimDown: Pilates Yoga Blend, sees it. But while that approach may sound pretty frightening to traditionalists, this can't in fairness be viewed as a typical yoga video; nor does Barrett, who commingles power yoga moves and what she describes as "core-conditioning power pilates," make any claims that it is. Many of the poses--including Warrior II, extended right angle, cobra, locust, and others--will certainly be familiar to yogis. But instead of holding these poses for several breaths, as is common, Barrett takes a more aerobic approach, "pulsing" in and out of positions as if this were a calisthenics class; while that doesn't do much to promote stretching, it does generate a lot of heat and calorie burning. Same goes for the pilates portions, which involve a lot of leg lifts, abdominal work, and other mat-based exercises. One might wish that the instruction were more detailed when it comes to proper breathing, alignment, and so on; it's also a bit paradoxical that while the "Crunch philosophy" states that their fitness programs are designed for "people from all walks of life regardless of shape, size, or ability," the only folks we see onscreen are uniformly attractive, bare-midriffed young women in amazing shape. But hey, whatever. Call it what you will, this is a fast-moving, reasonably challenging program that will likely find favor with many. --Sam Graham

Good mix of Yoga and Pilates November 14, 2009 Emily K. Unangst This workout is the perfect mix of Pilates and Yoga. I find it to be very relaxing yet feel the strengthening benefits after using it as well.
Excellent Workout! November 13, 2009 aliciamarialola (Bellevue, WA) I bought this DVD along with Ellen's 'Crunch Fat Burning Pilates' and DEFINITELY prefer the 'Crunch Super SlimDown Pilates Yoga Blend' - I've never been one for aerobic/dance workouts which is basically what the Fat Burning Pilates feels like. 'SlimDown Pilates Yoga Blend' however is both invigorating and easy-to-do and I'm definitely sore the next day!
Crunch pilates yoga blend October 21, 2009 T. Pfunke Great DVD, easy to pick up, nice menu, short workouts can be added on to any other workout easily. Fun workout, been doing a little everyday with other workouts, love this!Crunch - Super SlimDown: Pilates Yoga Blend
Quick and effective October 15, 2009 J. Lonergan (San Francisco, CA) This workout is just intense enough when I want to do a light day and it is quick. I really like how she doesn't make you hold a pose for forever. My core and my back feel stronger after I do this routine.
Disappointed October 12, 2009 Avid Reader (St. Louis, MO) I got this DVD because all of the great reviews, but I was greatly disappointed. I did not like the workout - it wasn't a creative blend of yoga and Pilates. I was not challenged by this work out at all and I am not interested in doing the work out again. I must be missing something since everyone else seemed to love this. I found this work out boring and repetitive. I think I did the warrior II pulse about 16 times. I thought the instructor did a good job of cueing and she was encouraging without being obnoxious.
