Amazon.com You've got to hand it to Kathy Smith--the indefatigable diva of fitness has a knack for staying on top of the cultural curve. Her peppy Kickboxing Workout came out right on the kicking heels of The Tae-Bo Workout and added much-needed polish to that popular workout's moves. Smith's Latin Rhythm Workout, released in the fall of 1999, capitalizes on America's love affair with Ricky Martin and Latin music in general. The workout has great music (unlike a few of Smith's previous videos), provided by a live band at the Conga Room in Los Angeles, and a lot of infectious energy from Smith and her core group of fellow dancers. Whether this works as a workout for you, though, will depend on how quickly you can absorb dance steps. In fact, it's unlikely to get your heart rate up to decent workout levels, unless you're a fairly accomplished dancer used to throwing yourself into the steps. The tape includes a very brief warm-up, and then segments that essentially teach steps like the cha-cha, the samba, and the merengue, followed by a few minutes of cool-down. Because the steps aren't strenuous per se, there aren't two workout levels provided, as in most of Smith's tapes. Included is a bonus segment for you and a partner, to teach you how to take the steps onto the dance floor of your favorite salsa club. --Anne Hurley

I hated it! June 18, 2008 This is the worst workout dvd I ever purchased. Kathy Smith zips through the steps in seconds and you can't see because it is so dark. To many people are crammed in one small area and she has professional dancers on each side showing us how "easy" it is. The little brunette professional dancer grinning up at the camera and completely showing off made it unwatchable. Let alone keep up with.
Excellent! April 27, 2008 Kathy Smith has always amazed me with her hard workouts that she makes fun and energizing.
Que?? April 25, 2008 I've loved Kathy Smith for 20 years but this wasn't something I'd recommend. I do know how to dance salsa, merengue and cha-cha, but I found this DVD to be very confusing. I'd prefer to put on some music and just dance, rather than try to follow her weird combo of "dance-aerobics". It seems like she threw together a Latin-inspired routine to be trendy. This just didn't gel for me. It doesn't feel like real dancing, yet it doesn't feel like aerobics.
Fun workout January 31, 2008 This is not as intense a workout as I would like, but if you like Latin music and are familiar with Latin dance you will enjoy this as variety to your regular workout. It was quite fun. If you are looking for high intensity workout and you are NOT a beginner, you should go elsewhere.
Great workout! July 11, 2007 I rented this video through Netflicks and liked it so much that I decided to buy it. I don't even notice the time pass while I'm working out because its so much fun. Some of the steps are a little hard to get at first but now that I've done it a few time I have the hang of it. She keeps it interesting by doing a variety of latin dances and the "experts" she has with her are such great dancers!!
