Product Description How to maintain optimum testosterone levels for the male body through the use of herbs, nutritional supplements, and diet
• Explains the phenomenon of andropause--male menopause--and how to deal with it
• Reveals scientific evidence of testosterone-blocking agents in the environment that alter men’s essential chemistry as they age
• Presents safe, organic plant medicines that can restore optimum testosterone levels
• Contains the most up-to-date natural treatments for impotence, infertility, and prostate disease
The recognition of the middle-age stage in male development of andropause, which is comparable to women’s menopause, is hampered by the lack of a clear understanding of the chemistry and physiology specific to aging men. Men are still capable of reproduction well into and beyond middle age. Yet a man’s sexual desire and potency varies, often according to his testosterone level. Recent studies show that the lowered testosterone levels endemic in aging men--the gradual drop that is quite normal--is being exacerbated by environmental agents. Testosterone-blocking estrogen agents are present in insecticides, industrial materials, pharmaceuticals, and foods. Men are daily inundated with a “cocktail” of estrogen agents that alter the fine balance of testosterone that makes them male.
In The Natural Testosterone Plan, Stephen Harrod Buhner shows why men need help to maintain their testosterone levels as they age and explains how safe, naturally occurring phytoandrogens--plant medicines that contain male hormones--can remedy the depletion exerted by the environment. Buhner details how each phytoandrogen works, when its use is indicated, and the most appropriate method of application.

Typical supplement nonsense September 5, 2008 Timothy Byrne (Seattle, WA United States) 2 out of 7 found this review helpful
Every once in a while as a resident of the NW I give in to the notion that alternative this or herbal that might make sense. I got this thinking that perhaps there was some herbal or alternative approach to speeding up recovery after workouts and such. The book is decent enough in going over supplements and what sort of boost they might provide. The problem is that the central premise of all supplement use is just wrong, and the book does nothing to show that things might be different with testosterone. The body maintains equilibrium levels of hormones. If you increase your intake of them the body simply breaks it down and excretes it. If you increase your intake of precursors, the body simply doesn't use them and they are quickly broken down and excreted as they build up. In short you can have an effect on levels in the body over the very short run and thats it.
Lotus Guide review July 2, 2008 Rahasya Poe (Chico, CA) The Natural Testosterone Plan: For Sexual Health and Energy By Stephen Harrod Buhner Let's face it; we no longer live in the same world our parents did. Food additives and preservatives, environmental pollutants, pharmaceuticals--the list seems to go on forever with things that affect our natural balance. It was encouraging to see that there are naturally occurring phytoandrogens (plant medicines that contain male hormones) that counteract the effects of testosterone depletion. This book is superbly laid out in easy-to-understand language to get you back on track, complete with dosages, possible herb/drug interactions, and availability.Rahasya Poe, Lotus Guide, www.lotusguide.com

Good fairly in depth book on Testosterone which is easy to read, giving details on the role of testoterone in the male body, the rise of estrogen and estrogen copiers that are found every where in the modern world how they taking a toll on mens health and longtivity. The book gives good details on natural testosterone sources, herbs that increase testosterone in the body, herbs that reduce estrogen effects on and in the body.
