3 out of 5 stars Not Great, but Not Bad   November 14, 2007
Lil Lo
I bought this DVD because Tina Landon is one of my favorite choreographers. She has done fitness videos in the past for MTV that I bought almost 10 years ago and still workout to today. Behind the Moves is nothing like them. It shows you just what it's title implies - behind the moves of 4 videos that Tina has choreographed. For those of us who have had no formal dance traning, it can be hard to follow because there is no mirror image, not to mention you do need coordination, persistance & determination. And once you finally do get the choreography down for any given segment, you realize it's only about 30 seconds of dancing. BUT, if you like to dance and are interested in something challenging buying this video used may be worth a shot.

3 out of 5 stars Best only if you're a natural dancer, born to dance, desperately want to learn these moves   August 18, 2007

Tina is a wonderful dancer & choreographer. The set, sound, lighting are professional, the dancers have worked on videos for all the top singers, are fluid & talented, no one seemed bored, etc. The intro was about 3 minutes, the warm up was decent but very repetitive, and the several minute "commercial breaks" interview w/Tina between each portion was a bit annoying. The bonus includes bloopers/outakes.
You learn, Christina Aguilera's "All I want is you", Britney's "Opps, I did it again", Lopez's "If you had my love", Samatha Mumba's "Baby come over", "That's the way"
This is the usual, "Here are 10 moves in 1/2 time & I'm mostly going to only count in 8s as a teaching tool, you'll be lucky if I say, 'kick out on 7....' Then let's do the next 10... & let's do the first 20 moves... moving on... & now w/music in true tempo all in 4-8 minutes."
Seems like all DVDs that teach dance moves do that, so I won't blame Tina for that. As usual, you learn only the main chorus part of the dance video & depending usually not even all of it.
I wish they would learn to do it like a real class & use mirrors so you only are facing the choreographer's back.
I really think having the song playing in the background, even lightly would REALLY help increase the fun factor.

This isn't for me since I got frustrated easily, though I was able to catch on quickly & liked Lopez's choreography since it had some latin steps & almost no confusing turns.
I give it 4 stars for the production values, talent & moves. Take off several stars if you can't learn fast or get bored quickly.

You can find a Spanish speaking ad on this DVD by searching google's videos & finding the video on myspace.

2 out of 5 stars Way too fast and vague explaination of dance moves   May 27, 2007

I agree with the others that Tina teaches a VERY fast. She also does not explain where to put your arms, legs in the some of the segments so you need to rewind, rewind, rewind to get it right. I do have 10 years of dance training and even I found it very hard to keep up! When I am going through the moves, I am thinking in the back of my mind....wait where does my leg go on this count? Where do my arms go? It is a bit tricky to get the hang of the moves. Dance choreography is NEVER taught as fast as Tina teaches it. I am sure her back up dancers went through a few sessions before the video aired to get it right. It's impossible to do it otherwise! This video is definately not for beginners. It is best for people who have some dance training, but even then it is a bit difficult to master because the teaching is unlike any dance class you have ever gone to! Way to fast, and vague explaination of dance moves...even for me.

I think this is a great video for someone that has a lot of experience with dancing, but also beginners can have a chance with this video if they are dedicated. The first dance "All I Want To Do" is broke down as it states on the case. After that hold on to your dancing shoes, she runs though the last four very quickly, never stating start on you left or right foot so you have to watch the video very closely. I personally, learned the first dance and attempted the second dance on the first day. Over the next several days, I worked on the first and second dance until I could keep up with the video and I'm presently working on number 3. It will be a good buy if you want to take the time to watch and learn. If your just looking for an exercise video, I would try something different.

4 out of 5 stars taking a chance from abroad...   May 5, 2006

i have to say i took a chance by purchasing thid dvd since there is no video preview available, but i'm actually glad i did... i won't say it's the best video ever, but it sure is a useful tool for those with a certain sense of rythm and/or some experience with teaching... i find it very convenient that tina keeps on warning the viewer when it's a good moment to rewind the video, and this matches each track and coreography segment...after reviewing the steps, she puts it all together with music so you can check what it'll look like... camera moves are quite ok, leaving room for an overall view of what happens on stage...again, i took a chance on it by buying a copy from caracas, venezuela, and i'm quite glad i did...
