Amazon.com Belly dancers are known for their ability to isolate and move one body part at a time. This video helps you tone arms and abs by learning isolations that target just those muscles. The arm routine uses smooth, flowing movements that complement the accompanying hip moves. Special motions of the wrists and fingers make the moves look dramatic and fluid, sometimes snakelike. Meanwhile, you're working your abdominals by lifting, shifting, and circling your ribcage. This video, more than the others in this series, makes you feel and look like a belly dancer. For example, you do "Egyptian arms" (picture yourself balancing a dinner tray on each hand, elbows at shoulder height, flexed wrists at ear height, fingertips away) while lifting and shifting your ribcage from side to side. The 30-minute workout includes some difficult abdominal moves done on the floor, body weight resting on feet and arms, torso lifted. --Joan Price
Product Description Accompanied by the wonderful rhythms of the original soundtrack, this workout will strengthen all your abdominal muscles and flowing arm movements will tone your upper body and arms.

Unique upper body toning routine May 28, 2005 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
Bellydance Fitness Arms and Abs is designed to tone your upper body using bellydance-inspired movements. In the first half of the workout, you will do a variety of arm movements, most of which require you to hold the arms at shoulder level or above. Although the voiceover instruction suggests that these moves will tone your biceps and triceps, I felt them mostly in my shoulders, which quickly became fatigued. Eventually, you move on to working the chest and ribs, mainly through isolation movements. The final ten minutes of this workout are performed on the floor. You'll start with several non-traditional abs exercises--eg, leg lifts while propped on your elbows--and then you'll work on more traditional crunches. The workout finishes with several yoga-inspired stretches, and the total time comes in at about 28 minutes.
Overall, I found this to be an okay light toning routine. However, because the workout concentrates on the upper body, there is no footwork, which removes the fun factor (as well as the cardio work) that exists in other videos of this series (eg, Basic Moves). If you're interested in toning the arms and abs and are looking for something a bit different, this workout might be for you, but if you want to experiment with some fun bellydance moves, you'll probably want to try one of the other videos in the Bellydance for Fitness series.
Oh, my poor arms... January 31, 2005 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I barely made it through the warm-up, so I know this one is good. My arms and abs are probably the weakest parts of my body, so I was drawn to this video by its title. Veena and Neena aren't nearly as annoying as some exercise video instructors, and they make it all look so effortless. I'll definitely be working out to this video for a while, until I can make it through the whole thing. Fun and a great workout, which is what I've been looking for. After this I'll buy anything Veena and Neena put out.

I'm Hooked On Bellydancing now! November 24, 2003 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I own this video and I love it! This is one great workout, ladies! It's great for the beginner, like me and Veena and Neena are EXCELLENT in teaching you the movements, slowly and presicely! I broke my wrist last summer and doing the "wrist circles" on this tape has really helped with improving my flexability in my wrist and relieves the stiffness! I find myself using this tape more and more every week! I also own "Basic Moves" and it's even better! I can't wait to get the "Belly Dance Essentials" gift set for Christmas! I'm hooked on bellydancing now!
I've never felt so sexy! September 20, 2003 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
If you want to feel like a beautiful Goddess of a woman, get this tape! In fact, get ALL of these tapes! I recommend this video highly to anyone who wants to embrace being a woman and to all of us who want to celebrate our individual beauty! Thanks Veena and Neena! You are beautiful! And oh yes, by the way, bellydancing IS an ancient art form. Obviously the person who posted on September 13 doesn't know any Egyptians or Egyptian Americans. Women as well as Men bellydance today as they did thousands of years ago. If you want to know facts about something, you must first go to the source. Ask any Egyptian American and they'll proudly show you their perfectly sculpted tummies, not some roll of "flab." Has anyone heard of Shakira? She's a bellydancer and has been since she was little. I think anyone will agree that her abs are some of the most perfect there are! Point proven :)
