Amazon.com Belly dancing is an artistic dance form that has been practiced for thousands of years, evoking feminine sensuality and fertility. According to Veena and Neena Bidasha, professional belly dancers and sisters, it can also be an effective workout for burning fat and increasing endurance. (Veena and Neena are trim and gorgeous--they certainly seem to prove this point.) This video does not teach belly dancing. It's a belly-dance-inspired cardio workout done barefoot. The routine builds from simple foot movements that establish rhythm to more intense moves with hops and jumps. Don't expect your belly to do the dancing in this video--the legs and feet do all the work here, except for some hip moves during the cool down. The routine is mostly simple, repeated foot patterns that develop in intensity, though not in complexity. This 30-minute workout is simple enough for beginners, but be careful of barefoot impact moves, especially if you're overweight--you may want to skip the jumping. --Joan Price

Emphasizes Fat Burning August 31, 2006 Christina Bargren (Detroit) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great tape if you're looking to burn fat- just like the title says. There's not much actual bellydancing in it the way that most people think of belly dance, mostly because most people don't understand what belly dance IS. The movements are more of an Egyptian/African tribal movements and you don't do much dancing but a lot of sort of jumping. If you want to lose weight, this is great- if you do it daily you'll literally see your tummy melt away, the pounds will just fall off. It's a little difficult at first -not difficult to execute but it definitely will tire you- but if you keep trying it's a GREAT workout.
I enjoy this, but... February 6, 2006 AquaOpal (North Central, Florida United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I can't ever finish the video. Hopping around back and forth, and the superfast leg motions probably would not be good for a beginner or for someone who has knee/ankle problems. Fun if you are actually able to execute the movements.
Fun and Interesting! June 11, 2004 Teresa Stein (Maryland) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I just bought this video 3 days ago and I have used it each day. I found myself working up a good sweat! The first time I did it I couldn't keep up but still tried my best. Today was my third time and I seem to be much better and already lost 1lb! I chose BELLYDANCE because I need to keep myself motivated while exercising. Veena and Neena sure motivate me! If your looking for a tape that gives you a fast good workout that is fairly simple this one is for you!! I enjoy it each time and haven't been bored at all! Probably better for beginnners like me! Enjoy!
This is NOT bellydance!! March 14, 2004 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
The set was nice, and the instructors were cheerful, but bellydancing is NOT jumping and hopping around on one leg, then the other. It should be classified under aerobics, and have NO bellydancing whatsoever in the title. I have taken bellydance lessons in a classroom format, and at NO time, did we jump around like cheerleaders. A total disappointment.
Boring and repetitive! February 18, 2004 J. Miller (Buffalo, NY) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
When I see the "Bellydance" in the title of something, I would expect to move my hips and dance. That doesn't happen at all in this video. It's all hopping on one foot, keep hopping, add an arm, switch foot, add an arm, keep hopping..... soooo boring! Do not get this video if actually expect to learn how to or do bellydance!
