2 out of 5 stars Women at large 30 minute workout   June 21, 2003

I've had this tape for awhile and just used it for the
first time tonight. I think the music is great, upbeat
and lots of variety. I didn't mind that it was made
in the 80's. But it moved way to fast for a beginner or
someone who is just started out, especially a larger person,
unless you were very good at dance or something!

The first two segments are more stretching than aerobics, which
is nice, expect from what I've read, it's not good to do stretches
without first warming up your muscles.

When she does move to the move aerobic part, I found myself
tripping over my feet. She doesn't explain how to do the moves
or what is coming next.

In the cool down and stretch portion at the end, she forgets to
work one leg on one of the last stretches. And she moves very quickly
from one side to the other, that I hardly had time to turn over
before she was starting something else.

I gave it two stars as I will use it after a more aerobic exercise
for stretches... but that's about it.

If you're bigger and out of shape (like me!) I would suggest
getting the Walk away the pounds tapes. They are easy to follow,
have good direction, only a few steps to learn. And while, there
isn't any very large women in it, I don't think that is so important....
at least to me. I've been doing the 1, 2, and 3 miles Walk Away
the Pounds tapes, for 6 weeks and have lost 26 pounds so far.

4 out of 5 stars Great for obese beginners but a little dated   February 6, 2002

I purchased this tape when I weighed 248 lbs (!!!), and I was pleased to find a tape that had women who were as big as me in it. Women at Large and Richard Simmons are the only producers who bother to include obese women (and men) in their cast. Obese exercisers have particular needs that most fitness gurus neither know nor care about. It is low impact except for one place where you have to move quickly and there's a tiny bit of impact, but there's no jumping. Very gentle. You can tell it's from the 80s, though, with the hairdos and the shiny leotards. Women at Large is a fitness group with the plus- and super-sized exerciser in mind. I have lost a significant amount of weight since purchasing (and re-selling it here at Amazon Auctions!), and I have progressed to harder videotapes, but I am glad that I had this tape as a start.
