Frustrating April 13, 2005 Robin (Akron, OH USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been stepping for about 3 months, so I'm not a complete newbie. Even so, I found this video frustrating. One: The music seems to have been added as an afterthought. Kathy's movements and counts don't always match the beat of the music. Two: Kathy's explanations of what movement comes next and what arm movements to do are often poor. Her cues to change movements come late and sometimes not at all. I'm sure it's a good workout, but I like to alternate between several different videos for variety, so I don't memorize the routines. I like to be led from one move to the next. I don't get that here.
Good Cardio! February 5, 2005 Katherine (Portland, OR) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I like the (35 minute long) aerobics part of this workout a lot. I started doing it when I was twenty pounds heavier, and woefully out of shape, and I just did the (12 minute) beginners level. Then as I got fitter, I added on the next (13 minute) intermediate section. Now I can get through the (10 minute)advanced section. I like that flexibility. I thought that the abs section was kind of dumb. There are toning and weight lifting sections too, but I haven't watched them. It took me a while to totally get the hang of the step combos, especially in the second section, but I think that's why I can still do the tape without falling asleep. Another person might not find the combos complicated, but I'm pretty clutzy. The tougher moves are aerobically challenging, not "danc-y", so I felt like it was worth my effort to learn them. This is the best tape that I've seen so far in regard to the leader calling the upcoming moves consistently and at the right time, so you can follow along more easily. Like any video, I don't think I could stand to do it every single day, but I get bored pretty easily. I do it four or five days a week and don't want to run away screaming like I do with some videos.
Great step workout January 31, 2004 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have been doing step for about ten years now, and this was one of my first workouts. It is still one of my favorites and can still make me feel like I've had a good workout when I'm through. Beginners might find it complicated at first, but I have found with this tape (and the other 12 I have) that after "klutzing" your way through it several times you will be able to do the entire workout without even looking at your TV after awhile. Well worth the few bucks:)
Too complicated for me. March 24, 2003 Elizabeth Savino (Mesa, AZ USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I like the higher impact of step aerobics, but I am too much of a klutz to follow her dance steps. If you're good at dance, you'll enjoy it.
Step Workout August 13, 2002 Vivian (Florida, Hialeah USA) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I love this step workout video tape. Kathy Smith is very entusiastic. The movements are easy to follow and it works the lower body as well as the upper body. I highly recommend it.
