Amazon.com Kermit the Frog as Santa Claus narrates this delightful holiday tale. Rugby the Tiger is Jaime's favorite Christmas toy from last year. Rugby is convinced that he will be wrapped up and placed under the tree again this year. When it's Christmas Eve and all the other toys try to explain to him that that is not going to happen, Rugby decides to take matters into his own paws and place himself under the tree. He makes the dangerous trip from the playroom to the living room trying not to be seen, for if a toy's secret of being able to move when humans aren't around is discovered, it becomes frozen forever. Now all his friends from the toy room must get him back before it's too late. This sweet story about friendship and loyalty is delightful. The songs, including "Try the Impossible" and "Old Friends," are darling. This 50-minute video is great family viewing and an excellent addition to your Christmas collection. (Ages 3 and older) --Peggy Maltby-Etra

Release the DVD already!!! June 2, 2008 This would be a wonderful addition to a Christmas movie collection that I wish they would release on DVD as well as re-releasing The Muppet Family Christmas. I am not willing to pay $[...] for the out of print dvd but I would love to have it. This title has never been released on DVD and with all the crap that Disney puts out I'm appauled that they don't release something as charming and quality as this. Its classic Henson and will always have a place in my heart!
Incredible film April 24, 2008 The Christmas Toy is one of the most wonderful films ever made. I am 25 and remember watching it over and over, year round as a child. The characters and songs are memorable and touching, and this movie makes me cry every time I watch it.
Like many other people have said, I wish it would come out on DVD as well. Its popularity would be enormous with the sales from us 80's kids who loved this movie so much. My twin brother is getting married in May, and as his wedding present, I purchased him a DVD/VCR player and all of our favorite movies from when we were children. The Christmas Toy was the very first one I ordered, and I guarantee I will be invited over to watch it with him come December. :)
jim henson. need i say more? March 12, 2008 I can remember watching this on Nickelodeon (which was the only channel that showed it unfortunately, unlike the grinch which was/is on almost every single channel) and just wishing i was old enough to set the VCR to record it. By far, one of the best Jim Henson movies ever made, though pretty much everything he made was the best. I think the last time they showed this was in 1993 or around that time, which was/is really heartbreaking, as it really is an excellent movie. I have been racking my brain for the past 10 years or so (around the holidays) trying to remember the name of this movie. Finally, just a few minutes ago i decided to put in a search engine, "jim henson christmas movie about toys" as i had to do with the obscure jim henson tv show called what people? "The Storyteller". (Yes i own almost every jim henson creation on dvd or vhs) BINGO! I have found it! My life is now complete and i can get it and share with my son for his second christmas next year.
Please put this on DVD December 6, 2007 "Old Friends...New Friends..."...how that song has stuck with me! This is another one of those great Christmas movies that just has not been released on DVD yet! Kermit as Santa narrates the story a children's playroom that comes to life when their humans are not around ("Toys Love to Play!"). Specifically, it is the story of a plush tiger named Rugby who does not want to lose his spot as " Favorite Christmas Toy" when he realizes that the little girl he adores has a new doll waiting for her on CHristmas morning. So, his plan is to sneak into the box, so that way she will unwrap him onChristmas morning- for the second time! It is a beautiful story where a toy learns that everything in life has its place and a time, and that true love amongst friends can be shared. Comedic and poignant, it is a great story for all ages.
the best christmas movie for all ages November 24, 2007 My daughter, who is now 23, had seen this movie when she was a little girl. It is still, to this day, her favorite movie. It is not a Christmas season without The Christmas Toy. We had the movie taped off of the television when she was about 7 and it had gotten mislabeled or misplaced and there were years that went by without seeing The Christmas Toy. When she was 18, I found the movie on VHS and was able to purchase it for her for Christmas. It was the only time I had ever seen her speechless. This movie made her Christmas season... And every Christmas season since! (Jim Henson was a genious!)
