Amazon.com "Remember what Joseph Pilates said," instructor Ana Caban says. "'You will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 sessions, and have a completely new body in 30 sessions.'" Pilates has become very popular and for good reason. By working the core muscles (the abdominal and back muscles in the center of your body) you improve strength and posture and develop a lean, long line. Certified Pilates instructor Ana Caban is a splendid teacher. First she demonstrates alignment and technique for 10 minutes, explaining the cue words you will hear and how to do the basics, emphasizing how to use the core muscles to strengthen the abdominals and back throughout the workout. Then she introduces a challenging 20-minute series of Pilates moves, instructing clearly, demonstrating beautifully, and continuing to advise you about technique, breathing, and form. Even though this is a beginning Pilates workout, Pilates is never easy, so these moves will feel extremely difficult if you're new to this kind of exercise. For example, you learn to hold your abs tight whatever move you're doing, and you move only the muscles you're working at the moment, using your stabilizing muscles to hold the rest of the body still (much harder than it sounds!). Another participant demonstrates modifications throughout in case Caban's moves are too difficult or your muscles fatigue. If you've been wanting to explore Pilates and you're willing to put in the effort and concentration, this video gets our top rating. --Joan Price

Pilates - Beginning Mat Workout October 26, 2009 A. Buschman Very happy with the quick delivery and comparable price! Just the workout I was looking for.
great for the inflexible beginner October 18, 2009 A. THOMAS (Oakland, CA USA) I really like this dvd. It was recommended to me by a pilates instructor. It goes at a nice slow pace. She demonstrates the more advanced and the beginner version. I was able to do most of the moves because I had a choice of how much to push myself. It's 20 minutes and I really felt it in my abs. There's another workout on this dvd but I'm not at that level yet.
for beginning.. September 12, 2009 Princess Kelly (Saint Louis, Missouri) i guess this is finefor a beginner, but it was soooo boring to work out to.
Awesome DVD August 28, 2009 Michelle M (Washington, DC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I would give it a 5 except the recording is a little crappy. There are spots where the colors flash from black and white back to color. I have this both on VHS and DVD so it is the actual program that is filmed this way not just a mistake that happened while recording from the master.
I did this program a couple of times a week while recovering from back/shoulder/neck injuries. It really helped with my back and I also happened to lose a decent amount of weight when I combined it with more mindful eating.
Not sure what to think... August 27, 2009 Joubi (Atlanta, GA) I bought this DVD because of all the great reviews. I just recieved it today and tried it. The exercises were very easy to do. Also the cover does not look like the same cover from amazon when I ordered it so it makes me wonder if I've recieved the correct one. I've been using the 10 minute solution by Laura Hudson but read that it wasn't real pilates and that this DVD by Ana Caban was the real thing so I decided to try hers. I've found that every exercise Ana does in hers is also in the 10 minute solution by Laura Hudson but the 10 minute solution gives far more instructions on how to breathe and how to preform each exercise. Plus the recording is far more superior than Ana Caban's version. There are no arm exercises on Ana's but Laura has a section for each section of the body. One for the abs, one for the buns and thighs and one for the arms. She also has a 10 minutes solution for burning extra calories and another one for flexibility. I really like the 10 minutes solution and plan on using it from now on.
