A treat for the brain! March 2, 2010 Hawk Eyes Brain Longevity: The Breakthrough Medical Program that Improves Your Mind and Memory I purchased this title after perusing another book by the author and noting his expertise gained through his medical practice combined with his sincere commitment to integrative medicine, treating mind, body and spirit. I needed a resource for a research class, and found his explanations to be simplified without being patronizing, and his style to include real stories of how people utilized and benefitted from a wholistic practice. I took the book when I traveled to visit my sister, who was taking a neuropathophysiology class, and just when I was getting into the 'tofu' of the book; gave it away because she really could use how he broke complex contexts and detailed definitions into very accessible lay explanations and examples. So I ordered another one! It's very inspiring - the research on how you can restore your brain, extend your longevity and help others by your example.
Brain Longevity - A Book Worth Wide Readership December 13, 2009 M. K. Greenidge (Barbados) I had a good idea of the book's content from flipping through a friend's copy. It has lived up to expectations. On the strength of having browsed the book's content, I ordered three so that I would be able to pass two on to a sister and to a close friend. They are both delighted with the book, and have already started to try to put its advice into practice.
Plausible advice about brain-helpful diet and life style, clearly explained and illustrated with case anecdotes. I am happy with my purchase and with the service by Amazon partners. [The book was in excellent condition as stated and had been careful packed for despatch.]
Brain Longevity---I want it! May 2, 2009 Adnil Excellent summary with a simple and clear explanation of medical/scientific descriptions of what impacts our brain functions. Important information for baby boomers who are starting to experience the effects of poor nutrition, lack of exercise, and continual daily stress---managing work, home, children, and care for aging parents. The book did cover information I've read in other resources. However, I'll keep this book as a reference manual, while I implement some of the practices recommended.
So Interesting!! April 22, 2009 M. Patsula (Bern, Switzerland) I think this book is fantastic. You don't have to be a brain or a doctor to understand the basic function of your brain and body. I couldn't stop reading this book and going back on pages. You also don't have memory loss to appreciate this book. If you are suffering from depression, weight gain, loss of sexual libido or addictions everything is connected. I have/had postpartum depression and am taking antidepressants and wanted to find out the Real reason why my brain stopped functioning normally and also why I couldn't concentrate anymore. This book has been a great help and I started taking some of the recommended supplements and I am seeing a great improvement within only a few days! The only problem with this book is that it is hard to find all the vitamins at his recommended dosages. When you read this book it is best to keep your own notes on what to take and do. It would be great if I could see him and get an evaluation on my body chemistry but I am on my own here and so I am finding the vitamins as best I can. (note: I don't live in the US)
My advice to you and don't wait until memory loss or old age get this book now, read it and decide for yourself if what he says is valid. I think he is a kind & compassionate doctor who is really here to help people.
Food for Thought March 14, 2007 Mrs. D. M. S. Robertson (Melbourne Australia) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Easy to read and full of useful information. Dr Dharma's enthusiasm is encouraging to anyone seeking further knowledge in this complex area. His holistic approach rings true to me and I very much appreciate his emphasis on working together with one's usual medical doctor as well as other complementary health professionals. His suggested dosages of nutritional supplements are much higher than what I have found in other literature - this being more 'food for thought'.
