Kitchen Essential September 30, 2009 C. Stipe (Pine Mountain, GA USA) Great recipes. Every Eating Well recipe I have tried so far has been great. This is a must-have book for any cookbook "collector."
Easy to prepare, fantastic flavor, healthy but not over the top. September 13, 2009 Lisa Emigh 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this book about a year ago and I use it all the time. I am not the kind of person who cooks or eats "low-fat" meaning that I use butter sometimes, I use cheese and I like my food to be flavorful. I do, however, also like my food to be healthy in the sense that it provides me with plenty of vitamins, nutrients, fiber and heart-healhty fats. This book is exactly that. Firstly, I like the fact that they talk about "good and bad" carbs and "good" fats. They not only explain to you what this means and how to live by it but they include nutritional information for each and every recipe so that you can see how ingredients affect nutrition. It has taught me a lot and since buying this book I have been able to stem out further with my own ideas and recipes.
I also lived out of the country for awhile, and another thing I love about this book is that the ingredients are easy to find. I notice that many vegitarian or healhty food books include a number of hard (yet not impossible) ingredients that when living in the states is fine, but in foreign lands are often not feasible.
The book also features a few info pages that help you to understand general cooking methods. These include;6 smart snacks, stock essentials, essential grain-cooking guide, essential vegetable-roasting guide, essential greens-cooking guide, essential chicken saute, and a few on desserts.
Overall I truly feel that this is an essential cookbook for anyone who simply wants to eat healthy. There are plenty of vegitarian options and meat options throughout the book to keep both parties happy. If I had to say one negative on the book its that there are very few pictures, and I just love looking at delicious meals to inspire my cooking.
Actually tastes like "food" ! September 10, 2009 Debra A. Henderson (Houston, TX) Since my husband was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes I have been trying to find cookbooks that are carb friendly. This is one of the few that actually has carb friendly recipes and they actually taste like "food" -- not hospital-bland. While not all recipes are rated as carb friendly, it does list the total carb count so I am able to adjust the menu to include a recipe from this book. I have only started cooking with this book, but out of the half dozen or so recipes that I have tried I have been mostly pleased with the outcome.
I love it July 13, 2009 Larisa G. Pihulya (Alpharetta GA) Its very good and very easy to cook. If you really care about your health then you already have this book or will have in couple days.
