Product Description
This revised and expanded third edition of the American Heart Association Low-Salt Cookbook is an indispensable resource for sodium-watchers.

The statistics are in—65 million Americans have high blood pressure, and nearly 5 million suffer from congestive heart failure. Whether you have these health problems now or want to avoid having them in the future, keeping your sodium intake low is one of the best ways to help your heart.

The human body requires sodium to function properly, but if you are like most other Americans, you consume about ten times more than you need. If that’s because you think low-sodium food means low flavor, think again! The American Heart Association shows here that a low-salt diet is not only good for you but delicious, too.

Encompassing everything from appetizers and soups to entrées and desserts, the American Heart Association Low-Salt Cookbook, 3rd Edition, is a wonderful collection of more than 200 scrumptious low-sodium recipes—50 of them brand-new to this edition. Whether you’re in the mood for a beloved classic dish or an up-to-the-minute future favorite, you’ll find just the thing to please your palate—and you’ll learn that shaking the salt habit is easier than ever before.

The American Heart Association knows that food is one of life’s great pleasures and that no one should have to sacrifice tasty meals for a healthful lifestyle. This new edition of one of its classic cookbooks is the perfect guide to making flavorful, satisfying low-sodium food. With the latest dietary information and tips on substituting ingredients, avoiding hidden sodium, and dining out, the American Heart Association Low-Salt Cookbook, 3rd Edition, will help you follow a low-sodium diet—and thoroughly enjoy it.

4 out of 5 stars Worth the Price!   November 19, 2009

Since I'm not much of a cook, I was looking for a low salt cookbook since my mother has high blood pressure. This book is perfect because the American Heart Association provides a wide variety of recipes which I haven't used yet since I'm not much of a cook. Anyway, the layout also provides a lot more information regarding a low salt diet such as possible substitutes. I would have liked to have seen actual pictures of the meals and food in the book to make it more realistic I guess. But I'm keeping this book in the kitchen just in case I have to make something law salt. Anyway the price is reasonable and the book is full of useful information regarding a low salt diet and contact and science information to help inform the public.

I bought this cookbook for my mother who just had heart valve replacement. It has a lot of ideas on how to reduce salt from your diet. We all need to do that.

Bought this book for my mom who has very high blood pressure. She has trying the different recipes and not only has she reduced her blood pressure readings, she has also trimmed the fat out of her diet.

This cookbook is so much better than I expected. The recipes are modern and easy to follow. The ingredients called for are items we've all heard of and our families would eat. I am a big fan of the Food Network and was worried a low sodium diet would be tough to follow and would be boring. I am very encouraged by this book. I highly recommend it for anyone trying to eat healthy.

5 out of 5 stars Wouldn't be without it! As a meniere's patient, I trust this resource.   February 7, 2009

My diet is limited to 1500 mg of sodium per day. Its easy to exceed that, but rarely worth it with a condition like Meniere's. I trust this resource for my very quality of life.
