Product Description

Make It Fast, Cook It Slow is the first cookbook from Stephanie O'Dea, the extremely popular slow cooking blogger: affordable, delicious, nutritious, and gluten-free recipes to delight the entire family.

In December 2007, Stephanie O'Dea made a New Year's resolution: she'd use her slow cooker every single day for an entire year, and write about it on her very popular blog. The result: more than three million visitors, and more than 300 fabulous, easy-to-make, family-pleasing recipes, including:

  • Breakfast Risotto
  • Vietnamese Roast Chicken
  • Tomatoes and Goat Cheese with Balsamic Cranberry Syrup
  • Falafel
  • Philly Cheesesteaks
  • Crème Brulee

--and much more. Make It Fast, Cook It Slow is the perfect cookbook for easy, quick prep, inexpensive ingredients, and meals that taste like you spent hours at the stove.

5 out of 5 stars Food for Relatives who always on the Go   March 20, 2010
H. J. Young (San Leandro, CA USA)
I bought this book on the recommendation of the Food Editor in my newspaper. I bought it for my cousin who is recovering from a stroke and is constantly going to classes. If her husband throws ingredients in the slow cooker in the morning than they have dinner to come home to. Before giving the book to them, I went through the book and found several recipes that appealed to me. I guess I will have to buy a book for myself.

5 out of 5 stars make it fast, cook it slow   March 20, 2010

Just as the title promises, I was able to make lots of delicious meals with little effort (right up my alley) in a short prep time

3 out of 5 stars Slow Cooker Review by Lorraine   March 14, 2010
Lorraine E. Barksdale
"Make It Fast, Cook It Slow" was a reasonable cookbook. I would have preferred if she used more fresh foods such as items from the garden and/or fresh produce. Many of the recipies were similar--using the same spices, etc. There really wasn't much difference between some of them. Amazon Verified Purchase!

1 out of 5 stars Only if you cook for kids and have no taste   March 13, 2010

When the Author admitted in her introduction said she wasn't a good cook, that should have been my first warning sign.
I am a Cookbook freak. I love great Cookbooks. I read them cover to cover before I even try a recipe. This was without a doubt the worst, most unexciting cookbook I have ever purchased. The recipes are boring, the preparation are without thought to flavor, complexity or taste and every Author comment concerns whether or not her kids liked it or not. We shouldn't cook to the lowest denominator and this book aims at that demographic. Kids like anything with cheese and ground beef, how boring. It's as if she just threw anything she had in her fridge or pantry into a slow cooker and hoped it worked out. No browning of meats, no layering of ingredients, nothing. Her ingredients include Campbell's "cream of whatever soup" and frozen beef chuck. I actually gave the book away to my assistant whose Husband is fussy and eats like a child. She loved it.
There are many great slow cooker cookbooks out there; disregard this at all costs.

5 out of 5 stars Made a few recipes and so far they are great   March 12, 2010

I made the peppercorn steak the other night, and the family loved it! Great cookbook, easy to read, easy to find recipes and more importantly -- easy recipes!
