Product Description Pilates is one of the fastest growing exercise trends. Now Ellie Herman, a renowned Pilates instructor and author, shows how to make Pilates more interesting and enjoyable. In this book, she introduces the reader to popular workout accessories that expand and amplify Pilates matwork exercises. This book details each prop's unique characteristics and explains how it can enhance Pilates in its own way: the magic circles tone arms, the small ball held between the legs shapes thighs, the foam roller stretches the chest and shoulders, and the large exercise ball builds core stability. The author guides the reader step by step through photo sequences of specially designed exercises as well as variations on traditional Pilates movements. Each series takes full advantage of the different props' abilities to produce results in less time and with less strain. A bonus chapter describes the author's Pilates Springboard, an inexpensive and space-saving variation of the classic Pilates Cadillac. This make-it-yourself piece of equipment provides the same full-body workout as large studio equipment but at a fraction of the cost.
a little disappointed with bookMay 5, 2009 AM Fahey 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
I ordered this book and the description was used - good but when the book arrived it looked like someone had spilled black powder on the inside of the front cover, the index section was torn and covered in the black powder and pages 36 and 37 also have the black powder on them. The powder looks like the stuff in copiers. the cover to my review had no damage and the envelope the book arrived in was in good condition.

Great Pilates Props bookNovember 22, 2008 E. Barnette(Walkertown, NC United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am a Pilates instructor and a fan of the "classical" Pilates principals of Joseph Pilates. This book is a great guide to Pilates exercises with the aid of props. Props can make Pilates exercises more or less difficult depending on the way they're used. I use many of the exercises in this book in my "Pilates Apparatus" classes. I viewed this book at a Borders bookstore before purchasing on Amazon where I got a much better deal. Highly recommend this book.
A Great book to use in conjunction with studio PilatesJune 1, 2008 Leslie Den Harder(new zealand) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is a very good one to use if you are doing regular studio pilates with an instructor. I am really emphatic that form is critical and this book is a useful reminder of the sequence of exercises once the precise form issues are explained by your instructor. For relatively experienced pilates students it provides useful guides to establish a home-based routine to support work with your instructor. Recommended.
