Product Description
Americans spend $440 billion eating out at restaurants each year, and as the American culture is increasingly on the go, we let diets fall by the wayside as we fuel up on fast food and convenience foods. Now, with The South Beach Diet Dining Guide, dieters will have a trusted resource to keep them on track wherever they go. The first part of the book features listings of over 75 of the most popular chain and family restaurants in America, including mall and airport listings. For each entry, the book provides an editorial overview and specific menu recommendations and nutritional information. The South Beach Diet Dining Guide focuses on what you can eat, not what you should avoid! The second part of the book covers suggestions on what to eat from different ethnic food categories, such as French, Italian, Mexican, Spanish, Indian, and Japanese. A bonus section for the business traveler will include an editorial overview and menu suggestions from South Beach-friendly restaurants in 15 of the most well-traveled cities: New York; Los Angeles; San Francisco; Boston; Chicago; Atlanta; Dallas; Cleveland; New Orleans; Kansas City; Minneapolis; Miami; Washington, DC; St. Louis; and Las Vegas. |

Wish I'd Had This Earlier! October 18, 2009 WiseWoman (South Eastern USA) This guide is better than Weight Watcher's although for a different purpose and diet. Wish I'd had it when it first came out.
Pretty much pointless... September 28, 2009 K.E.D. (California) I LOVE South Beach and have been extremely happy with most of the other books. That said, this one just didn't measure up for me. I don't live in one of the 15 major cities listed in the "travel dining" section of the SBD Dining Guide (that portion alone might have been helpful) and personally found the book to be a waste of money. The same principles regarding food selection are available in resources you probably already have- the South Beach Diet Supercharged book and a chain restaurant's website under "nutrional info". The information included also seems to be inaccurate or, at the very least, incomplete. "Look for soups that have the most vegetables and the fewest starches--Southwest Vegetable Soup is a good option." This is directly from the book, page 32. They then list Southwest Vegetable Soup (same restaurant) AS PHASE 3!!!
[...]
I noticed the same problem more than a few times (throughout the book). It may be that items with low carbs/calories/fat that look wholesome by the numbers contain "forbidden" items but that information isn't included. Food choices with higher "everything" (other than fiber) are frequently listed as Phase 1 while options that appear healthful and "South Beach Friendly" are occasionally shown as Phase 3. I know I'm doing the diet correctly because, while on it, I've lost 10 of my extra 20lbs...Either this book needs an editor to fix the typos or I need more information regarding their reasoning/the ingredients in the recommended dishes.
On the positive side, we only paid about [...] and it DOES save me from having to park myself at the computer to search nutritional info. That alone is worth the extra star- it would've been just one.
Great diet, but it's more fun to be fat! August 16, 2009 J. Blanton (Columbia, SC) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
OK, not really.
The South Beach Diet books are all terrific.
Eating this cuisine is a bit expensive, but, if you follow it, you WILL lose weight!
And the food is good.
(OK, not really as good as Aunt Martha's home cookin', but good. And you'll probably be thinner and live longer, if not happier.)
So. Beach Dining Guide June 26, 2009 P. Hawkins (St. Louis, MO USA) A nice handy book to take along with you when you eat out. However, it doesn't really tell you anything you didn't already learn from reading at least one of the other South Beach Diet books, as far as what to eat and what not to eat. Otherwise, a nice reminder to take along with you when you eat out and can take it out and look something up when you are being tempted by the menu.
handy guide to have June 7, 2009 kathy (minnesota) This is a handy little guide to have. If you can't find a specific restaurant you can use it as a guidline for similar types of food.
