Some good Info. February 13, 2008 divaz24 (IL) The book was well written & provided several possibilities which I did research further with my son. It's not the best book on child behavior I have read, but it is ok.
best for kids who "can't be still" January 7, 2008 Nancy C. De Young (Fairfax, Virginia United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
My son was diagnosed hyperactive in 1976..aged 6. In those days Rytalin was the poison of choice...now it is Prozac. I didn't see how making a zombie of him would let him learn, cope, or deal with life. I found this book and did the whole diet for entire family...and it worked. I believe the cause is in utero..mom has a vitamin B deficiency and it affects the baby's brain development, so the baby has to have lots of B vitamins and NO JUNK..for life...and if that is all it takes for your child to have a good life, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? My whole family felt benefits and he went on to be a Ranger and member of the Old Guard. This works...and NO SIDE EFFECTS..other than a good life!
This book was of no use to us January 31, 2007 Maryellen John 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
We made the changes that were suggested, but found no effect on our child's behavior (which is only mildly hyperactive). It appears some people have success with this, and that's great. Note however: it is VERY difficult to follow this diet in a family where only one child might need it. Personally, I believe that following your kid around and critiquing every morsel of food that goes into his mouth, drives everyone crazy.
Why Your Child is Hyperactive September 12, 2005 L. Collins 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
It may have been written 25 years ago but my son was a totally different child within a week of following the Feingold Diet! It's been weeks now and even he is willing to follow the diet because he says he likes the way he feels. I am so glad I will not have to put my 5 year old child on drugs that will alter his personality. This is a must read for anyone looking for a way to fix the problem and the long term affects of hyperactivity. Doping your child may be the easy way out but doesn't address the cause. This may not help all cases but it's worth a try.
The Feingold diet saved my child's life April 5, 2005 Belinda Scott (Haddonfield, NJ) 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
Dr Feingold's theory is that bad behaviour and/or learning disabilities in otherwise bright children is caused by artifical colors and flavors. Although it may seem too simplistic, it is the answer IF you, as a parent, are willing to alter your lifestyle by reading ingredient labels and preparing food that is normal, natural and healthy. A child cannot do this on their own! But you will save your child's future and maybe your own sanity. A must buy!
