Amazon.com Review Years ago, Suzanne Somers lost the chance to appear on a hit television series because she was "too chunky." That missed opportunity started her on a "diet roller coaster," trying all kinds of diets. Now Somers believes that diets and deprivation do not help people lose weight in the long-term. In Eat Great, Lose Weight, she explains the food-combining plan she calls "Somersizing": eliminate "funky foods" such as sugar ("my body's greatest enemy") and white flour; eat fruits alone on an empty stomach; eat proteins and fats with vegetables and without carbohydrates; eat carbohydrates with vegetables and without fat. Sommers presents 113 recipes that certainly don't resemble a traditional diet and might make a weight-loss expert's hair curl, such as Crispy Fried Eggplant and Mozzarella Finger Sandwiches, Flourless Cheese Souffle (with butter, eggs, cream cheese, and Gruyere cheese), and Grilled Pepper Steak with Herb Butter (trim the fat from the meat, but add both butter and olive oil). There's no nutritional breakdown, so you can't count fat or calories. Somers admits that "many experts will argue that food combining is a myth," but she says it works for her, and she credits it with trimming her down to 116 pounds, even though she eats "more than ever."
Product Description No one knows the self-denial--and the failure rate--of dieting better than Suzanne Somers. The Three's Company and Step-by-Step star struggled with her weight for twenty years. But now, after years of experimentation and consultation with more than one hundred nutritionists and dietitians, Suzanne has developed a weight-loss plan that truly succeeds.
With over a hundred recipes for great-tasting creative and traditional dishes, Eat Great, Lose Weight will help you free yourself from food cravings, get off the diet roller coaster, and learn to love food again. You won't believe how easy it is to look and feel your best!

Right concept, wrong execution December 27, 2008 Yael E. Roller (United States) I did this diet through the summer of 2002. Yes, I lost weight. Yes, I have since gained it back, and lost it again through other means. Pros: By eliminating refined sugars, carbs and other processed foods, she has the right idea of how to eat. This got me eating more veggies and fruits, while limiting processed foods considerably. Cons: Now that I'm older and wiser and have done research on how weight loss really works, I can tell you food combining and "hormonal imbalances" have nothing to do with it. It's calories in, calories out. From what I recall, she also puts little emphasis on the importance of exercise. It's nearly impossible to lose weight and keep it off without regular exercise. There are better ways to do this. I recommend The Eat Clean Diet, by Tosca Reno.
Great Way To Loose Weight! November 2, 2008 Annabelle Weathers (Royal Oak, MI) I decided it was time to take off the baby weight and had tried other things with no success. This was my last effort and BOY DID IT WORK!!! At first it was way different than every diet I had tried but after a couple of weeks not only did I feel great I was beginning to see a difference. Then all of a sudden the weight came off! I lost 25lbs in less than 4 months. I HIGHLY recommend this book to EVERYONE! To help myself in the beginning I made myself 'cheat' cards, a list of what is a 'protein', what are the 'funky' foods, etc. It helped a great deal. JUST DO THIS! IT IS SOOOO EASY!
Good book for lifestyle dieting May 21, 2008 J. Redfearn (Longview, TX) Great book for lifestyle dieting. I can live comfortably with Suzane's approach to eating.
Susan will help you reach your goal. July 19, 2007 R. Read (new jersey) Follow Susan's plan and you are guaranteed to loose, or should I say win the battle against fat.
There's a reason you can buy this used for one cent... April 2, 2007 K. Franklin (Hibbing, MN USA) 2 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is basically the "Fit for Life Diet" which is based on the idea that you shouldn't mix some foods at a meal. It works for some people. I've lost weight on this program but really, you are just cutting WAY WAY back on calories, so, that's the bottom line. If we all stopped snacking on GARBAGE and excerised, we'd lose weight! Why I really hated this book is because it is ALL ABOUT SUZANNE! There are pictures of her in her gorgeous home with her gorgeous friends and her gorgeous skinniness...gag me. If you want a Suzanne Sommers "Why I'm wonderful and how I keep my Figure" book, go for this one. But don't pay full price. Buy it for one cent.
