1 out of 5 stars Method works, but this DVD is HORRIBLE!   January 26, 2007

I let a friend borrow my original Miracle Ball set, and it was never returned. I found the original set's little 3" square book annoying so I was thrilled to find a DVD/ball set

Before continuing, let me say that this method really does work. However, this DVD is a big disappointment. It demonstrates THREE positions on the ball: legs drawn to your chest, legs drawn up but falling open and legs fully extended. She refers to "sitz" bones and your body's "building blocks"--terms I wouldn't have known except that I once owned the orginal ball set. Also, while your eyes are closed, and you're supposed to be concentrating on breathing, prompts pop up on the screen. How are you supposed to read prompts on the screen while your eyes are closed?!

The rest of the DVD is just filled with Ms. Petrone's chatter. She talks and talks and talks and talks..... blah, blah, blah. The chatter was too distracting to allow me to concentrate on what I was doing.

ELAINE PETRONE! If you read this review, forget the terrible DVDs, and pathetic little 3" books! Try a laminated card deck instead that describes each position.

Again, great method, but this DVD won't take a new user beyond the three positions demonstrated--how are they supposed to know how else the ball set works (unless they buy more ball sets---oh! maybe this rotten DVD IS a good marketing ploy?!).

Anyway, for beginners, I would recommend the orginal set with the annoying 3" book. At least with the book, you can see various other positions to try with the balls.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic   July 29, 2006

I love love love this little ball.

Honestly, I was reading some of the reviews and was surprised at some peoples disappointments and I have to say that I am amazed by this Method.

This program for me serves as a wonderful mediation and the results are great. I feel taller and I feel slimmer. I breath better too. I know the sell this program at Costco. I didn't realize what I was buying. My friend had introduced me to the balls at a seminar I had to sit at all day. I right away fell in love with them. What a bargain?

I've studied enough Wholistic philosophies on the body and health to recognize that you can't get much from any DVD for that matter. People in general have too much expectation that a single method on tape will get them results. If you tried different dvd programs for health I'm sure you realize that the teachers themselves know its just an introduction. To get true results you must look at if from a mind body and spiritual perspective. I'm glad I bought this dvd. I'm a visual learner. This was dvd was perfectly paced for me. I take my time when I'm learning something as so complicated as allowing my body to correct itself.

Elaine's dvd, even though its only an introduction taught me so much. I was ready for what she was teaching. The idea of letting go is so basic yet we don't do it. I've done different breath work and yoga styles. I got more with in a 10 minute session then I have with other styles of stretching.

I'm not kidding. I've gotten more flexiblity from one session of watching and doing the dvd then anything else I have taken. I've done hatha yoga, bikrahm yoga, I've read stretching books, I've read the "Genius of Flexiblity", I've bought Rodney Yee's stuff and the results with Elaine's method was just fantastic. I'm not saying those techniques don't work they certainly do but to be able to get such quick results without someone there to guide me...and on a dvd for that matter..well...I was so excited. I didn't feel stressed out or scared I would hurt myself. I was able to sit down cross-legged and bend my head forward and have my elbows touch the floor. I couldn't believe it. That was my convincer.

I really just focused on relaxing and letting go. I've read mind body books and you need to have the mind for it. You need to believe and have Patience. It's like cleansing. People who cleanse know that your body has a lot of toxins in it and it took time to put it there. So it's going to take time to get the junk out of you. You need to be ready to be OPEN to what she is saying.

I've studied Neuro Linguistic Programming Hypnosis and other alternative techniques to help alleviate my back pain. I've seen specialist in Chiropractic Neurology. I've done acupuncture. Mind you I'm only 27 and I started get sciatic pain when I was about 11 years old. But I realized even though I let go of the stress I still had to recondition my body to where I needed it to be.

So to have Elaine just say breath let go and let gravity take its course that was applicable was damn revolutionary for me. You need both mind and body for this to work. You can't do one without the other. It's like trying to move your top half of your body without your legs. This is the point she is trying to get out. You need to connect back to yourself. It's all about self discovery. You know your body most. You make the decision that this does work. It works for me.

People get so caught up in wanting to find the right way to fix something. I did. In fact, it stressed me out not knowing. The right way. That stress and that alwasy wanting to "know" is probably what caused my back pain to begin with. Plus poor diet in college. I read books, and tried mediatation. What I needed to do was trust my body had the resources. You have all the resources in you to fix you. I think this is a big point she makes. But I had to mess up a lot to finally appreciate what this method does for me. Elaine is offering you another method/tool to stop thinking! Just for a moment and let nature correct itself.

She may not come from a spiritual stand point but if you combine this method and read stuff on mind body connection I promise you the results will be amazing. Recognize that your thinking affects the body. Read Deepak Chopra's work, watch "What the Bleep!"

This method is a way to undo the stuff. It's a way to relearn and get those neurons fired up like when you were a baby. Think about it, when you watch a baby sleep he breaths from his stomach.

Babies don't know how to worry they don't even have a concept of back pain. They just cry, they FEEL and go back to sleep.
Back pain and other pain I believe is learned behavior. It took years of unconscious decisions (to stress, not eat well, not excercise) to get to this point. Elaine's method for me, has been a blessing. I thought I had to go to some yoga guru and spend years of training before I thought I could get a result. I've seen results in days. I'm a believer that I'm capable of healing my body. Not only that I'm saving money. Again if you have the right mind set and PATIENCE this little dvd is well worth. It's a start. The knowledge itself is priceless. Then all you have to do is go Borders or Barnes and Nobles and then read the book. That's what I do. I just do about 30 minutes - 60 minutes a day and I just focus on my lower and then the next day I focus on my upper. Stop taking your breathing and body for granted. This is so worth the money. Hey and if you are the type of person who likes to have all the information in front of you then go to website and buy the full version. It cost more. But if your like me that just want to try it out this is a great start. I know if you keep an open mind you get a great benefit out of it.

This dvd/ball set is great. For once, something I have tried for back tension works exactly as it claims. The idea is simple...learning to feel your tension helps you release it. Yes, this particular dvd only deals with the lower back and hips, but it CLEARLY STATES THAT FACT on the back cover. Excellent product.

1 out of 5 stars DVD is a Disappointment   June 9, 2006

As with another reviewer, I found the DVD a big disappointment. Most of the visual instruction was on proper breathing and the only focus area for using the ball was the lower back. What purpose does this serve if it only shows one application? The DVD also does not allow you to fast forward so if you want to review a specific part of the demo, you have to wait through normal speed to get to a specific point.
