Delicious! March 25, 2008 W. Mate (Beverly Hills, CA USA) This is a wonderful cookbook that just happens to be low-carb. The Tequila Chicken recipe alone is worth the price of the book. Hmm...I think I'll make it tonight!
George Stella is the best! March 24, 2008 Lola Brown (Los Angeles CA) You can't go wrong with George Stella's cookbooks. Every recipe is amazingly good. When I first started on low-carb, my husband got out his own frying pan and was going to cook his own food, certain that I was going to be making things that would taste like sawdust. From the very first recipe, he was hooked and now we both happily gobble up this food. We've lost weight, we feel great and best of all, we're eating like kings! Thank you, George, and keep 'em coming!
Both his books are GREAT! February 27, 2008 SL (NC) I bought both his books and I am still amazed by how good the recipes are. My hubby and I cook to his books every weekend. You won't regret getting these if you are doing low carb!!
Not all recipes appropriate for South Beachers February 11, 2008 WallyFam (middletown, de United States) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
It is hard to argue with the results Stella has seen following the Atkins version of low carb dieting. I bought this book because it was a low-carb cookbook that got great reviews. In my ignorance of the variations between low carb diets, I expected it to be like the South Beach Cookbook I have come to rely heavily on. It is not. For me and my family, we will stick with healthy fats and proteins, as recommended by the South Beach Diet, and we'll be skipping the saturated fats that are common in Stella's recipes. Many of his recipes call for heavy or whipping cream, bacon, and full fat cheeses. As a once in a while treat, heavy cream is ok. In our muffins every morning, not so much! In my mind, low carb does not necessarily equal healthy if it includes the unhealhty saturated fats. Needless to say, now I do know the difference between Atkins and South Beach! It was my mistake, and I can't ding the book for it. The publisher's description says clear as day "they both began losing weight while eating things they used to think were off-limits (like bacon, eggs and real butter)." That should have tipped me off! All of that being said, the recipes I have tried are very good (love the Tequila Chicken and the Crab Stuffed Mushrooms), and I just substitute lower fat ingredients when I can. A bonus for me is that many of these recipes are wheat and gluten free. Low carb cookbooks are a wonderful option for wheat/gluten sensitive people. So while I'm not in agreement that all fats should be considered ok in healthy eating plans, I have found many acceptable and delicious recipes in this book that are in keeping with the South Beach Diet lifestyle.
Gourmet Low Carb January 8, 2008 Kat (Chester, MD United States) It was just a matter of time before a great chef went low carb and came up with incredible food for those of us who know its benefits! Thank you George! I'm sure most of you have heard of Stella, but if you haven't gotten his cookbooks yet - now is the time! I've lost over 100lbs eating low carb (Atkins) but I've plataued now for over a year. My dearest friend gave me this book for Xmas and I promptly got in the kitchen and started cooking! In just one week 4lbs melted off and I'm eating muffins, bon bons and quiche! Hello!!! LOL Kidding aside! sometimes us LC's get in a rut... Meat - salad - Meat veggies and we just stop loosing... well at least I did. Stella's book is a god-send. The recipes are incredible - note: bon bons in moderation! :o) The key is to eat! Eat your 3 squares, actually enjoy your food - and as Stella says' don't skip breakfast! Someting I do all the time and since stopping to have one of those great muffins in the morning, wouldn't you know it - loosing again! Bottom line - Stella Style is a fresh approach to LC, Stella's story will inspire you, his recipes will keep you creatively cooking, and happily loosing those pounds!
