Get your facts straight and learn to have a sense of humor about yourself. November 2, 2008 Ryan Rowland 10 out of 15 found this review helpful
"Seth is trying to rip us off! Why only 12 episodes?" Here's the deal: I bought the first two volumes for about 40 dollars when they came out. I bought volume six for 25. What you get with the first two volumes are the episodes as they aired on TV. What you get with volume six are twelve episodes - the episodes as they were originally written and the television edits, both of which contain jokes not in the other edit. You also get a ridiculous amount of other bonus features: just shy of 50 deleted scenes, the 100th episode special (which is hilarious), the Family Guy live feature, three animatic episodes which contain several differences from the final versions, commentaries on every single episode, and dozens of other extras and making of's. I spent the better part of a day watching the special features - there were VERY few special features on the early volumes. I think paying 25 dollars for twelve episodes and a few HOURS of additional features is worth it, just as I think getting all episodes of season one or two with little extra scenes that got cut, commentaries on just a few episodes, etc. is worth 40. If you're paying fourty dollars for this, you are getting ripped off. "They aren't giving us the complete season!" Keep in mind this is VOLUME Six - NOT SEASON Six. What is contained here is the last half of season five and the first half of season six. After listening to the commentary tracks, I'm lead to believe that the episodes being released like this is being done by someone above Seth & Co. You're getting all the episodes. We'll get the last half of season six when Volume 7 is released. This isn't hard to understand. "Why isn't Blue Harvest included? THEY'RE TRYING TO RIP US OFF!!!" You knew it wouldn't be here. No one made you buy Volume Six. The two Family Guy movies are movies and they are presented as such. Blue Harvest came with a decent amount of special features, and to cram it in here would have surely taken up another disc if the final edit, television edit, commentary track, and all the extras were to be included - thus bumping the set up about ten dollars, which is about how much you should be paying for Blue Harvest. So what's the point? "I liked Family Guy, but then Seth made fun of Republicans/Bush/September 11th/The Simpsons/Christianity/my mom/whatever. It's too preachy!" Because ALL great art should be safe, easy to understand, and should be able to be enjoyed by ALL people. Get real, folks. Art is not about appealing to as many people as you possibly can. Saying something is too preachy usually means that your own beliefs are so weak and unstable that you feel threatened by others' beliefs. I believe in practicing what you preach, supporting what you believe in, etc. but STOP TAKING YOURSELVES SO GOD DAMN SERIOUSLY. Learn to have a sense of humor about yourself and your beliefs. Family Guy has made several tasteless jokes, a few of which touch on personal issues for me, but I have a sense of humor about myself and can laugh at a good joke. I know I've turned this into something other than a review. I like the show, I like Volume Six, but for God's sake - there is a lot if misinformation and stupidity in these reviews and someone needs to say something.
Alright volume November 2, 2008 Chad Carpenter (Kentucky United States) I'm a huge fan of family guy, been watching it since the beginning. I find this volume half and half, some episodes are funny and some are not that funny. I only recommend this volume if you already own all of the other ones. $30 for 13 episodes is a total rip off. I wish Seth would release family guy in seasons like he did with seasons 1 and 2.
Mixed bag October 31, 2008 A. Pierre (Somewheres) Ever since creator Seth Mcfarlane started American Dad, Family Guy has been a mixed bag. Some epsiodes are funny and others are dreadful. This set contains alot of shows that are dreadful and not alot i'd consider good. They actually made bonus features worth watching, the other season bonus features were scarce and not worth watching. Why does Family Guy add a curse word to each show? I swear and dont mind if people swear, but I think they do it so people can buy the dvd sets or seem cool to a younger crowd. I've only can recall a few times where swearing was a funny. Other parts seemed to do it to fill the quota of one swear per show. The jokes have even been more over the top and tasteless. I think some are funny but alot people find are uncalled for. I find alot of people hate the tasteless jokes and thats the reason why they stopped watching the show. I think Seth and his staff need to sit down and watch seasons 1-3 and remember why people loved this show.

I have loved this show since the day it began but seriously, this makes the recent simpsons episodes look amazing. I purchased this and after watching past episodes I decided to sell it before anyone else realizes this volume is lazy, Repetitive and unoriginal. Seth and the gang need to stop spending time selling atheism and their hatred for George Bush, honestly making fun of the president is like shooting fish in a barrel. I hope the writers' strike helped lose some of the dead weight on the writing team of this once awesome show. Sadly from what I've seen at the beginning of this season, I think it's time for Family Guy to take a bow.
Volume 6 is solid October 25, 2008 John F. Miller (Cleveland) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Family Guy volume six is probably my least favorite....but it is still great. In volume six you have the opener "No Meals On Wheels" an excellent episode where Peter opens a restaurant and is unhappy about Joe and his wheelchair-bound friends constantly patronizing the place....it features the Elton John song "That's why they call it the blues" in it to celebrate Elton John's 60th birthday when it aired on 3/25/07. It also marks the milestone of Family Guy's 100th episode "Stewie Kills Lois" in addition to the continuing episode "Lois Kills Stewie".....both excellent episodes. "It Takes A Village Idiot..and I Married One", "Meet The Quagmires" and "Believe It Or Not,Joe's Walking On Air" are "stand-out" episodes. Disappointing episodes...in my opinion...are "No Chris Left Behind" and "Padre de Familia" .....however no deduction in stars because of the bonus scenes and deleted scenes in this volume. This is "new" Family Guy era.....obviously....and if you're wondering, the "new" era began in the middle of volume 4. The humor and writing style is more glib, the flashbacks and cutaways are a little more "off the wall",different voices, and some new characters that the creators are experimenting with to possibly reoccur (they need to get rid of the Hispanic maid) .....so if you expecting the same style of humor from Season 1,2 or 3...you'll be disappointed. Pretty good overall....it's Family Guy!!
