The Best Tool For Learning How To Eat (plus much more) January 9, 2007 G. Sayers (Boulder, CO) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
A friend turned me on to "The Tao of Health..." and after some adjustments to my eating habits, I have never felt better. My energy level is more consistent (no fatigue), my immune system is stronger than ever, and for the first time in my life I have regular movements. Daniel P. Reid is not only a wealth of eastern knowledge but he has a way of making his ideas easily understood and without pretentiousness. I have given this book to countless people who have all had similar experiences to mine. I highly recomend buying "The Tao of Health..." if to just have it as a reference for living a better life.
All you need to kow about health basics January 9, 2007 Heike Schroeder (Walkerton, ON) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great self-help book for anyone who is confused by conflicting information about food choices, food combining and how to go about changing your lifestyle for better health in general. Don't worry ... it's not all Eastern mysticism .... there are comparisons between Eastern and Western approaches, but all very clearly written and also includes easy to understand sections on basic exercise, breathing techniques and recipies that you can make on a budget. Highly recommend.
Yields some interesting points, but that's about it August 22, 2006 Tony (Milwaukee, WI USA) 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
I bought this book years ago, when I was interested in Taoism. Mr. Reid yields some interesting ideas and points about a multitude of health related subjects etc. However folks, let none of us be deceived in believing that most of what he offers is none other than some interesting ideas with little or no research, proof, or references to back them up. When he does reference, he references some Chinese sources of antiquity (perhaps), and new age gurus/crooks such as VE Irons and Herbert Shelton etc. It is interesting to note how many and how often he quotes American pop health people of the past. Check out VE Irons and Herbert Shelton, examine their past lives. Not the type of folks I would emulate in any sense. On a final note, I appreciate Mr. Reids concerns about modern man's plight for better health. Too bad he seems disillusioned about the reality of modern health issues. We all generally know what the problems are, and what the solutions may be. Eat right and in moderation, exercise, challenge the mind, and find peace. You don't need pop gurus or ancient practices to do these things. Unfortunately, many of us want the "Fountain of Youth", and an easy way to try to avoid the reality of our own mortality. Keep searching if you will, but just to think, when we were children,,,,,how we laughed at stories of those explorers and the "Fountain of Youth".
Fantastic Book August 17, 2006 Karishma P. Lalchandani ((global)) Without boasting, this is probably my 3rd purchase of this book. I can only say that its fate or destined, that it never stay in my hands and that its meant to be gifted to someone else who may find it useful, as I have. Mr Reid's work and instruction is very thorough, and easy to understand.
Extremely Influencial in My Life July 9, 2005 D. lloyd (London, Ont. Canada) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I do not want to gush, so I will try and be as objective as possible. I grew up as a traditional martial artist, and at the hands of a hospital I was done a grave injustice ... the results left me with a very youthful looking 20 year old body, with very old organs. I was in the process of rehabilitating my body when I came across Mr. Reid's work. I was very fortunate to have had the training that I did, and I was working dilligently to re-build myself ... however ... there were things missing in my approach. HUGE gaps were filled in by Mr. Reid's enlightening research. In this book, Mr. Reid shares some wonderful methods that successfully unify Western natural approaches w/ Traditional Chinese health practices. As someone who already followed the Tao, fasting was a regular part of my life, but this but put a fantastically bright light on my practices. His work is engaging to read and very effective in terms of an approach to healthcare. If you are looking for Detox purposes, definately check out Mr. Reid's book "The Tao of Detox" for a more indepth view on the subject. In terms of a "whole package" this is a wonderful place to start, very new look into old authentic Taoist methods ... very well done. Yours, David R. Hastings Lloyd
