BOOK REVIEW: Eat & Beat Diabetes with Picture Perfect Weight Loss

I love picture books.  I love cook books with pictures that whet your appetite and show you what this combination of mystery ingredients should look like once prepared.  If you are struggling with diabetes or have been diagnosed as a pre-diabetic and like me you love visuals than this is the nutrition and recipe book you need.

This book is written by a doctor who knows all about health and the foods that fight blood sugar issues and a chef who loves food that tastes good.  The two have gotten together to help you maintain good blood sugar levels and fight diabetes in the kitchen with your diet and you can eat more food than you thought possible, will probably lose weight (maintaining a healthy weight will decrease your risk for diabetes) and it will taste good.

As an example would you like a snack of 3 ounces of white cheddar cheese at 320 calories and 28 grams of fat or would you prefer 4 servings of Caramelized Onion and Roasted Red Pepper Pizza at 320 calories and 8 grams of fat?  See the pictures on page 142 and 143.  I know what I would pick.  And the recipe is right on the page with easy to follow instructions.  You do not have to be a whiz in the kitchen to follow this book.  Eating light bread can save you almost 100 calories per two slices.  A 4 oz. chocolate chip cookie is 640 calories vs. 1 scoop frozen yogurt in a cone is 140 calories (page 36).

There are so many things about your life that are out of your control but the food you eat is in your control.  Feel powerful, educate yourself and learn what is healthy, tastes good and will keep your body working as best it can.
