When an infection passes down from the upper respiratory tract into the trachea (wind pipe) and reaches the bronchi, it is termed as bronchitis. Bronchitis can actually occur after the common cold and even sinusitis. Bronchitis is an inflammation of the airways of the lungs and it can have the following causes:

• Flu viruses, especially the influenza A and B viruses
